You think that anglers are a disturbance to nature? Well, do not trust your intuition and look at our new data: environmental impacts unrelated to fishing and dog presense trump any human impacts: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Successful pitch for "research and transfer" money yesterday. Now our results from the gravel pit project can be implemented nationwide. Many workshops with anglers and practical lake restorations will follow in the next two years. @RArlinghausFish @MonkCT @RadingerJ @matern_sven
Winter mortality of newly stocked juvenile noble crayfish (Astacus astacus) is strongly size dependent. A mesocosm experiment conducted with undergraduate students from the third semester now published in Limnologica. doi.org/10.1016/j.limno.2023…

Today was special giving a talk with @ThomasKlefoth at @SLU_aqua Drottningholm. Such a history at this place. Thanks @goersen @rob_van_gemert and @Josefin_Sundin for hosting us.
Yeeaah! Looking forward holding it in my hands. Amazing work and extremely dense information about applied fisheries management.
Our new book is sent to the printer. 479 German pages about people and lakes, recreational fisheries and sustainability. @LeibnizIGB @HumboldtUni @IRI_THESys @dfg_public @BMBF_Bund
Yearly field excursion with students for ten days. Always great to see young people work and learn hard. And our spanish guest students made some amazing Paella out of nothing in the field camp. Really cool!

Think adding more #fish to a lake makes for better fishing? 🤷♂️ Think again. Or: A little story on how we turned 20 lakes into little laboratories by @AnthropoceneMag 🧐 anthropocenemagazine.org/202… Orig study: doi.org/10.1126/science.adf0…

Our work in @ScienceMagazine is a reminder to enhance biodiversity via habitat management.
Habitat creation in lakes leads to higher fish abundance than the common practice of simply stocking lakes with fish, a new Science study finds. The results illustrate the value of ecosystem-based management of key habitats in achieving conservation goals. scim.ag/1KG

Is #ecosystem-based habitat management more effective than alternatives? Our whole-lake experiments compared: creating shallow zones vs. adding wood vs. #fish stocking.

Do anglers and local fisheries managers think alike? Kind off. All love fish stocking, but differ in which sizes to stock, and managers believe more in harvest regulations and habitat management. Our new study led by @ThomasKlefoth paper OA for 50 days authors.elsevier.com/c/1gRVs…
Both voluntary fisheries managers and anglers hold strong pro-stocking beliefs, but they differ in pro-ecological beliefs and perceived functionality of habitat management and harvest regulations. Check our latest publication: doi.org/10.1016/j.fishres.20…
