🚨 It's finally out! 🚨 This is the big one. 100 cultures, 12,000 people, 108 researchers. Why people (and our most-used surveys) get collectivism wrong and how to fix it. Join me for a fun thread! 🧵 @NatureHumBehav nature.com/articles/s41562-0…
Researchers randomly assigned lonely students to (1) chat with AI everyday for 2 weeks or (2) text a random student. The human was better at reducing loneliness.

The chatbot used ChatGPT through the platform Discord. The researchers based it on findings from relationship science.

Who's this "we?" I recorded a podcast with the International Association for Intercultural Research where we talked about the new responsibilism project, where the rice idea came from, and more. Thanks, @IAIR_OFFICIAL! 🤩

How much running or walking is beneficial? This estimate suggests the max benefit is 45 minutes of running. And 15 minutes running = 50 minutes walking. @nutrition_facts youtube.com/watch?v=nzjO-C7I…
Very cool to see this commentary about the responsibilism paper from Adam Cohen and Amiryah Toves in NHB! 😃 They really nailed it. nature.com/articles/s41562-0… @NatureHumBehav @NaturePortfolio
What a day to visit the University of Toronto! 🍂 I got to give a talk about my new responsibilism paper and walk around campus with Spike Lee. @UofT

And I think that's a legit perspective! "Collectivism" has that word "collective" right there in it. Doesn't sound like family and close friends to me.
That's why I think the word "responsibilism" might be helpful. Maybe it'll catch on! nature.com/articles/s41562-0…
But explicit bias mostly increased from 2020-2025. (100% is a bit exaggerated because it’s off a small base, but still an increase.)
Implicit bias on the IAT also increased across domains 2020-2025. Why? Societal changes? Discourse? Sampling differences? No answer from this study yet. #SESP2026
Interesting new data from SESP, Tessa Charlesworth @KelloggSchool. Explicit bias went down from 2007-2020 on everything from race to disability… 🧵
Listen to me vent about my feelings! This gets to the heart of the distinction between warm fuzzy collectivism and responsibilism. It’s emotions versus pragmatic behaviors. (Diff not sig of course, just the average finally flips)
I had fun talking about these new findings at SESP in Montreal! Thanks @mcgillu for hosting, @MohammadAtari90 for organizing.
