New from @Joe_Castaldo and me: Cohere has raised most of a $7B funding round, set to boost the AI firm's valuation to $35.7B. The Canadian federal government is putting in $1.6B for an equity stake. Other backers include $NVDA, $BCE, prior investors.

If you go deep enough, you can see the extent that this has been happening for a while. We just sorta let foreign companies kill industries at a national level sometimes despite every red flag.
@voteLabonte they should ask the folks in Espo if this gives some deja vu.
Devastating news coming out of Wainwright. Thoughts are with the many casualties, families, and first responders. Wishing them godspeed in their recovery.

One of the most disappointing endings to an MLB season ever?😬
A franchise that committed over $1.8 billion to just five players:
Ohtani: $700M
Betts: $365M
Yamamoto: $325M
Tucker: $240M
Snell: $182M
2026 adjusted payroll: $339M
Deferred salary commitments: $1.1 billion
And after all that, they get SWEPT in the NLCS by a Milwaukee Brewers team with a $146M payroll 🧹

Now THIS is interesting 👀
If disruptions to Russian data centres continue, could we see a significant weakening of Russian bot farms and coordinated disinformation networks?
Of course, bot networks can migrate to foreign servers and alternative infrastructure. But the real question is how dependent these influence operations are on Russian-based infrastructure.
And if the reported drop in bot traffic is confirmed, we need to study whether it’s a temporary disruption or evidence of a deeper structural vulnerability.
Because Russian propaganda doesn’t operate on narratives alone. It needs infrastructure, money, and distribution networks.

Will Russian bots be unable to save the @gop if Ukraine keeps hitting Russia data centers?

This explains why Texas separatists, with their totally coincidentally identical “Veteran, Christian, Father, MAGA” bios, have suddenly gone awfully quiet today, right alongside their Quebec counterparts, conspiracy whackos, and Polish anti-EU eurosceptics

It is sickening that the USA is now lifting sanctions on Russian fuel, and transparently ridiculous to blame Ukraine for the spike in prices that obviously began with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Putin is murdering innocent Ukrainian civilians every day. The Ukrainians are fighting for their lives. And yet the White House is apparently determined to force American drivers to bankroll Putin’s slaughter. It won’t work and I doubt it will make much difference to the price of fuel.
If we want Russian oil and gas back on the world market then let’s end this war - with a free, sovereign and independent Ukraine.

He threw Ukraine under the bus and further destroyed America's global reputation for this? Just astoundingly stupid.
Context:
300k tonnes of diesel = 93 million gallons.
US uses 160 to 170 million gallons per day - so 300k tonnes would last 13-14 hours.
Total order of 1.8 million tonnes = ~82 hours of US use = ~3 days 10 hours.

The Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act of 2022 prohibits the import of diesel into the United States unless the president submits to Congress a certification that Russia has agreed to withdraw from Ukraine, recognized Ukraine's sovereignty, and poses no threat to NATO.
How is this consistent with the law?
