DJ Durkin deserves a pass. Auburn’s defense hasn’t been the brightest spot this year but I am starting to believe that this isn’t his fault. Durkin lost a crap ton of talent last year. A bunch of the talent that he had a hand in developing and now they’re either in the NFL or balling on other teams. Let’s run it down. Malik Blocton is making plays for LSU Amaris Williams injured but on UGA’s roster Jay Crawford is balling out for Ole Miss Kayin Lee is balling out for Tennessee Robert Woodyard is balling for Missouri Keyron Crawford and Keldric Faulk are in the NFL. Fast forward to this season and now we all of a sudden cannot stop the run well or our DBs can’t tackle. Durk has not all of a sudden forgotten how to coach. I’d argue that if we were able to keep most of those guys we would have beaten Florida and Tennessee probably by 2 TDs. I think Golesh thought they’d be able to score better than we have been and took that production for granted. Combine that with whiffing on O line talent and you have a roster deficit in the worst way. Auburn ran into a roster buzz saw this weekend and now people are mad at Durkin. He’s actually over achieved with this defensive roster. Pleasant was CB 3 on the depth chart and has been elevated to CB1. It’s probably going to take close to 45 million to fix this roster and 10 million is going to be needed just to fix the Oline. Auburn is fine at the skill positions but we need trench play in the worst way right now. Auburn offensively should be a bad matchup for Ole Miss this weekend because Ole Miss hasn’t been good against the run. But since we can barely run block this season Ole Miss might beat us with our former players Crawford and Horatio, by two TDs. The construction of this roster is a disaster and Warsaw needs to be shown the door. Auburn was extremely talented last year but had horrible coaching and we basically flipped it. We have good coaching but horrible talent. This could take a few years and if DJ parts ways with Auburn we might be in a worse situation next season.
