Read this awesome interview I did with Columbia Journalism Review’s @ivannagy about my reporting: “People are more important than the lawmakers. A random janitor, a Kroger employee, an auto mechanic—what they say is always going to be more interesting.”

Update - make that *NINE* straight weeks at #1, which constitutes a new nonfiction record, at least in recent memory.
By comparison the decidedly non-nonfiction FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY hit nine weeks in 2012.
Nothing has had this kind of longevity since then.
Here’s to @maggieNYT and @jonathanvswan for doing the impossible.
REGIME CHANGE now has *EIGHT* straight weeks at #1.
How rare is this? Over the past decade the longest nonfiction streaks are:
Michelle Obama’s BECOMING - 8 weeks (2019)
Michael Wolff’s FIRE AND FURY - 7 weeks (2018)
David Grann’s KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON - 7 weeks (2024)
Jonathan Haidt’s ANXIOUS GENERATION - 6 weeks (2024)
Bessel Van Der Kolk’s THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE - 6 weeks (2025)
Absolute bestseller domination by @maggieNYT and @jonathanvswan.

Americans were once members of a proudly literate society, but today, reading has declined across age groups, gender, and education levels. For The Atlantic’s August issue, @rosehorowitch explores the reading collapse—and its effects on civilization: theatln.tc/BYL9zqM8

It's been years since a nonfiction debut achieved this velocity. TENS of thousands of copies of REGIME CHANGE sold in a few *HOURS*.
Amazon is flat out of books.
Physical books are hard to come by nationwide.
Congrats to @maggieNYT and @jonathanvswan for the earthquake proving nonfiction publishing is far from dead.

New pod: WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH THE NBA?
I talked to @TimAlberta about basketball's era of bad vibes—tanking, flopping, load-managing, ratings woes, worthless regular season games—and his profile of Adam Silver, under whom team valuations have septupled despite this deluge of negativity.
The themes of this pod are the cultural themes of our times, especially the downsides of treating culture like a publicly traded firm seeking to maximize earnings-per-share, and the way that efforts to optimize cultural products for profitability tend to degrade something essential to the thing itself.
We also talk about how villains in sports are great for sports—but something else happens when fans start to believe that the sport itself, and the establishment figures charged with managing it, are the real villains.

New: Sen. Rand Paul’s son drunkenly accosted and hurled anti-Semitic insults at Rep. Mike Lawler at a Capitol Hill bar on Tuesday night.
His son told Lawler that if Rep Thomas Massie loses, it’s going to be because of “your people.”
“My people?” Lawler asked Paul.
“Yeah, you Jews,” Paul responded.
“Do you think I’m Jewish?” Lawler asked. “I’m not.”
“Oh wow, I’m so sorry for calling you a Jew,” Paul said.
He then said that Jews were “anti-American” and how Lawler and his “Jewish supporters” served Israel more than America.
