💛 Happy School Bus Driver Appreciation Week! 🚌
This week, we celebrate the dedicated bus drivers and monitors who safely transport our students each day, often before sunrise and long after the final bell rings. Their care, consistency, and commitment make a difference for students and families across our district.
We also recognize that being short on bus drivers impacts many families. That reality makes us especially thankful for the incredible drivers and monitors who show up every day to support our schools. 💙
💬 Want to share your appreciation?
Tag your child’s bus driver or leave a thank-you message in the comments below.
🚍 We need more drivers.
If you or someone you know is interested in driving for MCS, please apply today. Even part-time drivers make a meaningful difference. Search “bus” at 👉 Drive4MCS.com

Following this afternoon's weather decision, we have received several concerns about travel conditions throughout our area. Please know that our teams did their best to assess roads today and found that most all had turned to slush by late afternoon. However, we are aware that our teams can't possibly assess every road in our county. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution and to respect the concerns that have been expressed, we are going to transition to a Remote Learning Day for students tomorrow, February 4.
It will be an Optional Work Day for staff. Staff may report to work on their regular schedule if they deem it safe to do so, or follow the Inclement Weather Plan. Please reach out to your supervisor as needed.
Thank you for your patience as we prioritize the safety of our students and employees. Have a great evening.

I’ve always loved the insight from Warren Buffet, “Trust is like the air we breathe—when it’s present, nobody really notices; when it’s absent, everybody notices.”
Trust IS like air, and particularly in today’s world.

Today, we remember 🇺🇸
On Sept. 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed. We honor those who lost their lives and recognize the brave local response agencies who risked everything to save others.
We are deeply grateful for all who serve to protect our country, and for our local heroes here in Moore County who answer the call when we need them most.
Today, we highlight one of our own: Captain Logan DeBerry, a proud Pinecrest High School graduate and now a Captain with the Southern Pines Fire Department.
➡️ Logan’s path of service began during his time at MCS. He attended the first 7th grade class at the old Aberdeen Elementary School, graduated from Pinecrest, and spent summers attending Fire Academy. By his senior year, he had earned certifications and was already volunteering at local stations, building his foundation in service early.
💡 Did you know? MCS high school students can follow a similar path today through the WCE CCP Fire Academy in partnership with Sandhills Community College. Learn more: sandhills.edu/catalog/23-24/…
Now, when emergencies happen in Southern Pines, Captain DeBerry is often among the first to respond—bringing relief, protection, and solutions through action.
We are #MCSProud of Captain DeBerry, and of all our alumni who dedicate their lives to the safety and security of others.

Sunday Morning Leadership Lesson
I started my morning with a conversation with @ncsupers Jack Hoke, Executive Director at North Carolina School Superintendents Association. Among other topics, Jack asked me about the songs my dad loved playing while band director @ncatsuaggies (North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University). This took me down memory lane. As we talked, it dawned on me that Dad certainly cared about the music. But what he cared about even more than the music were the #STUDENTS who were actually playing that music, which included current #NCAT band director Dr. Kenneth G. Ruff.
Pop was a really tough man. I assure you, I am not making that up (LOL). But his students knew he REALLY cared. And That!!! That’s the BEST part…the CARING part. All people need it-kids and adults. I’m sure the topic will come up in many houses of worship today. Caring still matters.
#LEADERSHIPLESSON:
Even grown-ups respond positively when THEY know YOU really give a darn about them. 😊 And with that in mind, thanks for the call Coach Hoke. You have no idea how much I appreciate you. See you soon. Pic= Dad's Last Game @AADULLC #AC4P #Caring #SAMEpage
