PUBLIC WI-FI OPERATIONS Earlier today, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) announced an enforcement exercise targeting illegal resellers of public Wi-Fi services across the country. The exercise follows consultations with key stakeholders, including telecommunications operators, @URAuganda and members of the Wi-Fi Hotspot Association, on the regulatory challenges associated with the resale of public internet services. Unlicensed providers are reselling internet access without the required authorisation, raising concerns about standards, consumer protection, fair competition, government revenues, network and infrastructure safety. Under the Uganda Communications Act, no person may provide telecommunications services to the public without a licence issued by the Commission. Addressing journalists at UCC head office earlier today, @UCC_ED said a nationwide enforcement exercise will involve identification and take-down of illegal installations and seizure of routers and related equipment. He encouraged all illegal operators to immediately cease operations and advised consumers to use internet providers licensed by UCC. #ConnectedUganda2030 @MoICT_Ug @azawedde @JulesMweheire @Bbossa

If you haven’t endorsed @mkainerugaba for President come 2031, you’re against development of the nation. @PLUsecretariat is championing this initiative.

“Tajja Gasima!” 😂 @HEBobiwine said in 2022 that Uganda would not drill for oil, no matter how much President Museveni tried. Fast-forward to yesterday, President @KagutaMuseveni named Uganda’s first drop of oil , Pearl Sweet.

Comrades, I see a lot of people concerned about the word “sweet”. But let me explain. “Sweet” crude oil refers to its low sulfur content (typically under 0.5%). The name comes from an old-fashioned way oil prospectors used to test crude: they’d taste it. Oil with low sulfur tasted mildly sweet, while high-sulfur oil had a foul, sulfurous taste — hence “sour” crude for the high-sulfur stuff. Sweet crude is more desirable because it’s cheaper and easier to refine into gasoline and diesel, since you don’t have to strip out as much sulfur (a process that adds cost and requires specialized equipment). West Texas Intermediate (WTI) and Brent crude are both examples of sweet crude, which is part of why they’re used as major pricing benchmarks.

Today, at State House Entebbe, I met Ambassadors representing members of the United Nations Security Council and formally presented Ambassador Olara Otunnu as Uganda’s candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General. I urged them to convey Uganda’s endorsement to their respective governments. Ambassador Otunnu has the experience, integrity, and diplomatic credentials to lead the UN. Uganda’s record in promoting regional peace and security, as well as hosting refugees, reflects the values that underpin our support for his candidature.
