Leaning on Jesus for every breath and every step every day; husband, daddy, preacher, professor, autoimmune arthritis fighter

My grandparents went through the Great Depression, worked in a shipyard during WWII, lost a child in a tragic accident, and a house in a fire. They endured other hard things too. They still managed to show constant love and support to their friends, family, and even strangers.

I am equally adept at forgetting why I enter a room and why I leave a room.

Look to Jesus alone for deliverance from guilt, shame, and sin.

This guy looks familiar. They made me remove my glasses for the photo.
Dr. Timothy Gunnells has witnessed Amridge University’s remarkable growth, from a small school meeting in a church building, where his father, Dr. Terry Gunnells (retired faculty member), first attended classes while pursuing a graduate degree, to a university offering multiple academic programs. Dr. Gunnells earned a Doctor of Ministry from Harding School of Theology, Master of Science and Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry from Amridge University, and Bachelor of Arts in Bible from Freed-Hardeman University. Dr. Gunnells began teaching at the college level as an adjunct instructor over 30 years ago. In 2013, he joined Amridge University, working alongside his father. He enjoys teaching a wide variety of courses, including undergraduate Bible, Ethics, and Ministry courses, masters level Leadership and Ministry courses, and doctoral level Ministry courses. In addition to teaching, Dr. Gunnells coaches and consults with churches, speaks to diverse audiences, leads workshops and seminars on Leadership and Spiritual Formation, mentors younger ministers, and serves as the preaching minister for the Southside Church of Christ in Shelbyville, Tennessee. "One of my favorite things about teaching at Amridge is the diversity of our faculty and students, as well as the opportunity not only to instruct amazing students but also to learn from them. I make it a goal to learn something from every student every time I teach. I know that being a lifelong learner involves more than academic pursuits; it also includes interpersonal relationships. Learning from books, colleagues, and my students makes me a better teacher, a better minister, and a better person. I am so grateful for my lifelong relationship with Amridge University and for all the people who have helped, and continue to help, make it a wonderful learning experience."

Very soon in @Logos ! a highly recommended resource from Broken and Mended @Mended2018 founder, David Heflin @DavidGHeflin "Purpose in Pain: Rediscovering God’s Purpose Through the Pain of Chronic Illness" logos.com/product/456871/pur… Currently in Pre-Order 🤓 "Purpose in Pain is an honest look at how chronic pain affects not only the one physically suffering but all those around them. There is a real loss for everyone that should be acknowledged and appropriately grieved. However, Heflin doesn’t leave us in the dark forest with no way out but shows us that the path to light and freedom comes from seeking the Lord in the midst of the pain". —Dave Furman, Chancellor, Gulf Theological Seminary @davefurman "Purpose In Pain is for anyone who has suffered significant loss. Reading it makes you feel like David Heflin is your friend and that you are not alone after all. . . . I hope many people around the world receive this book as a gift". —Sarah Sumner, President, Right On Mission "David Heflin is the companion you need as you honestly face life with chronic illness and pain. Filled with pastoral wisdom and personal stories, Purpose in Pain skillfully laments the losses of health without losing sight of hope. Read this book and you will be encouraged in your suffering, strengthened in your faith, and reassured that you do not walk this path alone". —Esther Smith, author of A Still and Quiet Mind @esthermariesmth

The price of unnecessary items and experiences reach a tipping point when folks stop spending the money. For some people that should happen sooner than they realize. My grandfather used to say that he had everything he ever wanted because he knew what to want.

Having a Biblical worldview is going to make you different than even most of the people who are habitual church goers. You will not fit in but you will be the light and salt Jesus calls you to be in this world.

One day you won't be the youngest one in the room anymore and it will have just happened without any notice.

The world is a messy place. People need genuine community. The Lord knows this and that is what He wants the church to provide for each other as we diligently strive to love Him, each other, and our neighbors from the heart.

Our church leaders saw a steady decline of attendance on Sunday evenings. They listened to a folks who wanted deeper fellowship and Bible study. We formulated a plan I have done in different settings and have experienced excitement and more than doubled involvement.
