As far back as Little League, Brandon Webb wasn't the best player on any team he joined.
But he kept after it. And then, three years running, he was one of the top two pitchers in the NL.

Makes me laugh every time. Murph never shakes his players hands, so they just smack him.

It was a delicacy for those of us who grew up outside of Southern California but got the chance to read Ross’ work. In addition to his HOF career, I admired the quality time he shared with his wife, children, grandkids and community. RIP
If there was a Mount Rushmore of ball writers, Ross Newhan would be on it. He was a giant in the biz, a Hall-of-Famer who spent much of his 43-year career covering @MLB for the LA Times. He was a mentor to myself and so many others, a friend to all. Ross died today at 89. RIP💔

U2 has announced a 2027 global stadium tour titled “Carnaval De Luz presents: The Greatest Show On Earth.”
The tour kicks off Feb. 23 in Mexico City with six dates on the calendar for now, although U2 plans to add more and perform through 2027 “and beyond.”
Bono said in a statement: "The Greatest Show on Earth? Now that’s a throwdown. It’s a dare, to ourselves as much as anyone, to try and have the best night of anybody’s life. A bit of showman, a bit of shaman, a riot of color, unreasonable guitar, bass and drums, and tunes you can hold onto. Because if people are gonna show up, we certainly are.”

Twenty five wins and three losses is the line people quote. The shape of that Guidry season is what actually sells it.
He posted a 1.74 ERA with nine shutouts, struck out 18 Angels in a June start at Yankee Stadium, and won the Cy Young unanimously. Nine shutouts means nine nights where the other team went home with nothing at all.
Then he started the one game playoff in Boston that decided the division, the game everyone remembers for Bucky Dent's home run, and he won that too. A season like that does not usually get a chapter attached at the end of it.
Top five since integration is a big claim with Pedro and Gibson and Maddux sitting in the pool, and I know it. Somebody has to be the fifth name. I put him in anyway and I will argue for it.
Would you put him in the top five too?
