For thinking it? No. For truly believing it? Yes. Smith and Day made the most conservative playbook imaginable for Fahey, and they couldn't throw it out because that's all they had. At least with Sayin, they could've flushed it and adjusted.
Slept on it before saying something dumb, but this whole seaspn was a long time coming. The whole 24 and 25 seasons were everything coming together perfectly on both sides of the ball. Great senior talent backed up by good depth, elite players everywhere capped by the best in #4.
I think OSU and Day knew this would be a challenging year. They got some good talent from the portal, but the bones of the young guys just aren't there. Everything ultimately came down to, "can Julian Sayin make the leap to be a great QB?" That answer was no, that's the season.
Ryan Day just straight giving up is not something I would've thought was possible anymore, but here we are.
