Who has a good idea for a Constitutional Amendment for reforming the pardon power? At the very least, preemptive pardons should be off the table, right?
SCOOP: White House lawyers weigh preemptive pardons for large numbers of junior admin staff, as MAGA allies press for protections for lower ranking aides Under discussion is pardons everyone in certain policy, like deportation Does not seem imminent washingtonsun.com/whitehouse…

Great read!
Medicare will require $10 trillion in taxpayer subsidies over the next decade. What would it take to make that number smaller? We asked a handful of Medicare experts for their $100 billion proposals. Here's what they came up with. 1/n

Government over regulates a service. That service becomes more expensive. Maybe we shouldn’t regulate it as heavily?
Ever wonder how much health coverage mandates add to the premium you pay? @jaredrhoads joins me on the podcast to talk about his recent paper that estimates the cost of state coverage mandates. Link here: church.substack.com/p/health…

Price negotiation in auto repair, plumbing, law, finance, accounting, general contracting, doesn’t work because the buyer knows a lot less than the seller. Sounds kind of ridiculous, doesn’t it. It’s almost as if markets adapted to information asymmetry…

This was an amazing conference, and I was honored to be incited by @HooverInst to attend. I recommend everyone read @TomVChurch’s overview below. 👇

Last is my contribution, where I pitch a linear reduction in subsidies for high-income seniors on Medicare Part B through IRMAA payments. hoover.org/research/reducing…

The full list is at my Substack post: church.substack.com/p/seven-… There's something for everyone (to love and to hate). The list isn't a comprehensive Medicare package, but it is a terrific starting point. Now we only need to identify another $9 trillion in savings...

General revenue now funds about half of Medicare. A new brief by Hoover Policy Fellow @TomVChurch proposes replacing Medicare Part B's five IRMAA (Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount) premium tiers with a linear ramp that ends the taxpayer subsidy at $250,000 of income for single seniors and $500,000 for couples. The reform raises up to $113 billion over 10 years, removes premium cliffs to smooth out marginal tax rates, and leaves premiums unchanged for roughly 90% of Part B enrollees. The amount of central planning already in American health care is incredible. In a functioning market, prices adjust constantly in response to what buyers are willing to pay and what sellers are willing to accept. Setting prices once a year is wild.
