I’m taking a step back from my open source and the Ruby community for my own mental health. I won’t be attending anymore conferences or meetups. I’ll still be pushing releases and responding to issues and PRs for my clients.

SF Ruby crowd is the best! We now have a duck, an octopus, a cat, plus lots of pets with their humans! And I love Ashlee the Knight ❤️

Active Search is Basecamp's new gem: one search API for Rails across backends. Define an index, add has_search, then chain search, filter and highlight.
Start on SQLite, Postgres or MySQL, move to Elasticsearch, Meilisearch or Typesense without rewriting queries. Still alpha.

We all have jobs... background jobs.
Our head of backend, Vladimir Dementyev (@palkan_tula), gave a talk about them at Rails World.
He shows how Active Job went from a thin compatibility layer to a foundational framework component. He ends by introducing Durable Continuations (open sourced), which give you workflow-level orchestration while sticking to the Rails way.

A rogue group of agents is analyzing sandboxing tools for AI agents in search of vulnerabilities. COI (github.com/coipond/coi) is among the projects they have targeted. Here is one of their GitHub accounts: github.com/dowl96wvnj

The answer to "what does this enable?" is ReActionView v0.6, which introduces LiveView-like, fine-grained reactivity for Rails.
You declare state in your view like strict locals, read it in plain Ruby, and write it from HTML attributes. Updates happen at the slot level, so only the changed values are updated. No JavaScript framework and no new file format needed.

I'm honored and humbled to join the Rails core team.
I'll be focusing on security and improvements to Active Storage and Action Text. Please reach out if you have thoughts on what would make your work easier.
