I’ve had some people ask what I think Easton Messers draft stock will be come April, it’s impossible to answer right now but I think the closest comparison in the last few years is Kaden Wetjen from Iowa. Wetjen was drafted by the Steelers last year with pick 121 (4th round). He’s used as Pittsburghs kick and punt return man, while having no offensive production. A main difference between the two is Wetjen was drafted as a true return specialist while Messer is an offensive weapon with return ability. Wetjen had 3 TDs his senior season at Iowa on offense between receiving & rushing, so I do believe that Messer is a better wide receiver. Messer has a career 24 TDs & over 3,000 yards. Not to mention he is willing to block on outside WR screens I think a 40 yard dash time will be big to gauge, if Messer runs a 4.49 or better I confidently think he will be drafted in the first 4 rounds like Wetjen due to his versatility, availability, and playmaking ability in 2 phases. Overall, I figured this was the easiest comparison in terms of physical attributes and their ability to be elite return specialists, but I do believe Messer provides a much bigger role on offense. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out in the offseason, rooting for Easton big time.
