Painter René Magritte was famous for placing everyday objects in unusual or unsettling situations, like a train coming out of a fireplace.
We have to imagine that this video, referencing his 1964 painting "The Son of Man," on social media would've seemed pretty surreal to him.

So, just how much bigger could the 19 January 2026 geomagnetic storm have been if Bz were negative and approaching -Bt? Here's a comparison. At 600-700 km/s and Bz sustained at -40 to -50 nT for some 6 hours, the 20 November 2003 G4 storm reached -422 nT. The 19 January 2026 storm had much higher solar wind speed (~1100 km/s) and could potentially have reached -60 nT and even -80 nT for a short time. It could have far surpassed the 20 Nov 2003 storm.
