Kenya has made significant progress in opening up and securing new market opportunities for our farmers and exporters. However, market access alone is not enough. There is a need to strengthen access to affordable financing so that farmers have the capital required to increase production, meet quality standards and consistently supply these markets. Speaking today at the Agriculture and Food Security Transformation Summit 2026 at Jamhuri Park ASK Showgrounds, Deputy Director of Trade Mathew Komen representing Principal Secretary Regina Ombam during a panel discussion on Financing Agri-food Systems Transformation, noted that a more diversified, value-added and private-sector-led export base depends on getting affordable capital from the farm gate to the export market. He was joined by PS Blue Economy, @PS_Betsy_Njagi ,Director General @KDC_KE Norah Ratemo and Group Director Programs-African Guarantee Fund Nishdeep Sethi. The panelists underscored the importance of de-risking agricultural lending and unlocking capital farmers to translate trade opportunities into real incomes. @CS_MoALD @DrRonohpaul

Close to 30 technical officers from the State Department are undertaking a three-day training programme on Rules of Origin Certification in Nairobi. The training which commenced today and will run until 8 October 2026, is being conducted by the World Customs Organization (WCO) in partnership with Strathmore University. The programme provides officers with an opportunity to deepen their technical understanding of Rules of Origin, covering key areas including origin criteria, minimal operations, consignment requirements, advance rulings and origin certification. The training is expected to enhance the technical capacity of trade officers and strengthen the State Department’s ability to support the effective implementation of regional and international trade arrangements, including the East African Community (EAC), African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the Kenya–European Union Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), among other trade agreements. The programme is structured in four progressive stages, with each stage serving as a prerequisite for the next and culminating in advanced training that will include a factory visit and dedicated sessions for practical case studies. @SBSKenya @WCO_OMD
