Save the Trafalgar! We are now building momentum to try & purchase the freehold of the pub as a community-owned pub. Please fill in this questionnaire about the pubs role in the community, as it helps provide evidence for us to access grants to do so! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

Community sites like ours are vital to social cohesion. It shouldn't be controversial to believe that local communities & working class people (in SW19 and beyond) deserve to have quality, affordable produce in a space they cherish and feel a sense of belonging to.

Thrilled to receive notice this morning that after this application was rescinded, amended, re-submitted and then rejected with a 34 page report from the planning committee, that our landlords have gone for the route of appeal to the Secretary of State to try and shove it through
Delighted to discover that a year after signing our lease on the pub, our freeholder landlord has filed their 3rd planning application to redevelop the site + put flats above, this time fully going for it: Demolition of existing site with a pub underneath 3 stories of 6 flats.

Honestly, I just don't get how you could want to butcher this local space for the sake of four flats? I am so tired of fighting against the forces of speculation that have no connection to our community. I know it's all about the money...but this place is magic. Undeniable magic.

I forgot, its 6. So I guess that's where the money really is. It's no secret that the area needs homes, but I fundamentally don't believe that a thriving historic community asset, intrinsic to local life, should be put on the chopping block just because developers own the land.

I only recently visited the Trafalgar in Merton for the first time (when making that video on London cider pubs) but instantly saw how special it was. Shameful that anyone would consider removing what appeared to me to be the heart and soul of the neighbourhood.

You know what's really fucked? The various applications, amendments or whatever have always come through within weeks of us paying our quarterly rent. It feels like we're being laughed at. Paying for our own demise. A really shit kind of Damoclean/Sisyphean hybrid of doom.
