10/15/45: 80 years ago today, USS England (DE-635/APD-41) was decommissioned after one year, ten months, and six days in service. She'll never be recommissioned. Lt. Cmdr. LeBoutillier's final entry was short, but poignant:
"Decommissioned this date. This is the last War Diary."
I'm visiting family in South Carolina and went to Fort Sumter today. Was super cool, but they only give you an hour to explore it, and you honestly need at least another half hour if you want to see and read everything.
11/7/44: Somehow, Kumano and her saviors made it through the night and proceeding day without issue, and safely reached Santa Cruz at 1500, where the rest of MA-TA 31 was already waiting. But Kumano obviously wouldn't be going anywhere, in her condition.

Schumer: We want to reach across the aisle.
Jefferies: We aren’t interested in retribution.
Trump: Steven Miller is my new right-hand man.
This is why we need new leadership.
11/6/44: At dawn, the convoy leaves Santa Cruz to continue its journey. But at around 0715, the Gato-class submarine USS Guitarro (SS-363) was patrolling off the west coast of Luzon near Dasol Bay, when she sighted smoke and masts from the convoy off in the distance.
By 1718 that evening Doryo Maru was getting ready to tow Kumano by the stern, and an hour later she was underway with the cruiser in tow, only able to proceed at an agonizingly slow 2 knots as they set course to link back up with MA-TA 31 in Santa Cruz.
