Democracy should feel like safety, like freedom, like dignity. Like the ability to exist openly without fear.
This IDAHOT, we’re reminding the world that queer people are not outside of democracy, we are part of it. At its very heart. Because a society cannot call itself equal while LGBTQ+ people continue to face discrimination, violence, and exclusion simply for being who they are.
True democracy leaves no one behind. 🏳️🌈

Today, May 17, on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) 2026, we reaffirm that democracy must include everyone. This year’s theme, “At the Heart of Democracy,” reminds us that human rights, dignity, and participation cannot be selective.
Across the world, LGBTQ+ people continue to face discrimination, violence, and barriers to equal participation in society. At Equality for All Foundation, our advocacy, youth empowerment, public education, and community work continue to push for a Jamaica where LGBTQ+ people can live safely, freely, and with dignity.
Democracy is strongest when no one is left at the margins.
Human rights are not selective. Democracy includes us.

Dominik Krause has been elected mayor of Munich, marking a historic moment as both the first Green Party leader and the city’s first out gay mayor.
The 35-year-old secured victory with 56.4% of the vote, defeating former Social Democratic Party mayor Dieter Reiter in the run-off.
Krause celebrated the win by kissing his fiancé, Sebastian Müller, after thanking “the love of my life, without whom all of this would not have been possible.”
Sharing the moment on Instagram, he wrote: “Munich, you are simply insane! Our town has chosen to break the dawn today. Thank you for this incredible trust. Let’s get it on!”
Krause, who has served on the city council since 2014 and became Second Mayor in 2023, is a Green politician, with a focus on climate action, sustainable urban development, digitalisation, and social policy.
As mayor, he has pledged to prioritise affordable housing, accelerate transport reform, strengthen climate protections, and champion an open, cosmopolitan Munich. 🍾🥂🏳️🌈💪🏿
