Looking forward to the state apology for the needless brutality, beatings and abuse meted out to political prisoners in Portlaoise through the late 70's and early 80's.

My aunt Eilís O'Connor (Bone) RIP and my dearest friend AnnMarie Quinn (Ballymurphy) in the yard in Armagh Gaol 50 years ago today.
We remember Eilís and all the remarkable, redoubtable Republican women prisoners who defied the might and violence of the British state.
There were no firearms on the Garvaghy Road.
The 'question' is settled.
Replying to @Kscott_94
Sources from the security services tell me (exclusively) that, while assets from DRG’s were on the road, due to the scale of the gathering had no access to weapons.
Their assessment stops at the fact that not paramilitary groups; but local youths had access to petrol bombs, and it was localised to one area to Churchill Park, they did not consult the PSNI, due to the low risk.

Pat, a tireless, hard-working stalwart of Green Cross who worked on behalf of republican prisoners and their families for decades.
Pat , like many other women of their generation, had worked diligently and sometimes invisibly for over half a century and longer to advance the objective of Irish unity and in support of prisoners and their families. If our movement was a building, these women, and other women like them, were the foundation, corner stones and the scaffolding which held our structures together in good times and in bad.
As well as collecting Green Cross, fighting election campaigns, and working within their local communities Pat along with another Republican Stalwart Margarite Gallagher staffed the Green Cross book shop - Siopa an Ealaine – at the Sinn Féin centre on the Falls Road for over 30 years. They had been for the many thousands of tourists and visitors the smiling, welcoming face of Irish Republicanism.
Both women demonstrated enormous courage through their work in the shop. Despite the threats and harassment from British soldiers and unionist death squads it was always opened. They were there in February 1992 when RUC officer Allan Moore, pretending to be a journalist, went into the Sinn Féin advice centre next door to the shop and opened fire killing Paddy Loughran, Pat McBride, and Michael O'Dwyer. When Moore left the building he was grabbed by the arm by Marguerite who was dragged by him to his car which was parked in Sevastopol Street. He pushed her away and drove off.
All of the events of the last half a century that visited that part of our city of Belfast – the pogroms, the Falls curfew, internment, the hunger strikes, numerous incidents, atrocities and attacks, the elections, all of the elections – Pat, like many other women, was there. Pat was particularly centrally involved in the Green Cross. That organisation, which was founded in 1973, provided much needed support for prisoners and their families. They follow a long and honourable tradition of like-minded activists who in the midst of conflict have come together to support prisoners and their families.

48th anniversary
"JACK DUNNE, one of Wexford's leading republicans, died on Thursday, October 18th, aged 74 years. His dedication to the Republican Movement had not wavered since he joined Fianna Eireann in Wexford in 1924. He was imprisoned in Mountjoy in 1941, and interned in the Curragh in 1958.
Elected to Wexford Corporation in 1967 as a Sinn Fein councillor, Jack Dunne fought for the people of Wexford for many years. Proud of Wexford's history, he prevented the destruction of Selskar Abbey, one of the town's historic buildings.
At his funeral on Saturday, October 20th, a republican guard of honour flanked his Tricolour-draped coffin. A black beret and black gloves were laid on top of the flag.
The oration at the graveside was given by Diarmaid Ó Súilleabháin of Gorey, as Jack had requested before his death.
"Not just a Wexfordman by birth," right but also by folk memory and tradition, a man in the true republican hero mould, steadfast and unchanging, a veritable link with the Fenian faith and with the men of '98, Jack Dunne was the very father and fountainhead of republicanism in his native Wexford for over sixty years."
Referring to Jack Dunne's service to the people of Wexford as an alderman, he went on: "Jack Dunne's name was a byword in the matter of principles and integrity throughout Leinster."
Ó Súilleabháin also spoke of Jack's great care for Ireland's history and culture and his vast knowledge of all things Irish.
"I have left Jack Dunne's greatest attribute to last," he said, as he talked about Jack's kindness to those in trouble and his work for prisoners' dependants.
The Ard Chomhairle of Sinn Fein passed a motion of sympathy to Jack Dunne's family and comrades. Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam uasal sí laoich dhilis.

Large crowd gathered today at the Republican Plot in Milltown Cemetery at an emotional and dignified Commemoration to remember the Volunteers of D/Company, Belfast Brigade, Óglaigh na hÉireann.
Their cause was the freedom and unity of Ireland, a cause we continue to pursue today.
This is as good a time as any to remind people the pages messages are always open if people want an anniversary post scheduled, information on a memorial or newspaper archives checked for family or personal info related to Irish Republicanism.
