Proud to publish a Forum piece in @WaderStudy about protecting shorebirds (e.g., Spotshanks) in the Inner Gulf of Thailand thanks to @TheWCS, @BCSThailand, and @BirdLife_Asia. One small step in the fight to safeguard our feathered friends!

“Each of the threats (…) requires specific place-based management interventions if long-term conservation of Spotted Greenshank, and other shorebirds, is to be accomplished at these sites.” – @TringaShank et al.

It is very exciting for @GlobalFlyway to be enabled to share, real time, forthcoming tracks of 3 more Nordmann's Greenshanks tagged in Thailand by @TringaShank! These three (zoom in at globalflywaynetwork.org/flyw…) add to story of SIU CHING, tagged in HongKong last year, now in India.
Curious as to where and how Nordmann's Greenshanks move within Thailand and beyond!? Now you can follow their amazing journeys via @GlobalFlyway. Simply follow the link (globalflywaynetwork.org/flyw…) and filter birds by project or species! Just in time for northward migration 🥳
#Endangered Nordmann's Greenshanks are rather plastic in the location of their nest site (as long as its directly associated with a larch tree...)
See our new paper! 🥳🐣

Join the coming #OBC webinar on 11 Feb, 10am UKTime. Philipp Maleko @TheWCS and Khwankhao Sinhaseni @BCSThailand will share with us the mysterious life of Nordmann's Greenshank in its breeding and wintering grounds.📝Register at: tinyurl.com/47enr39r
Migratory shorebirds face many challenges, not least are stray dogs. Even if the pups cant catch them, the energy expended flying away is costly & makes birds vulnerable to avian predators.

Sometimes, the path to studying Nordmann's Greenshanks in the Russian Far East can get a bit messy...

So fun to see how @wwfhk-tagged Nordmann's Greenshank "Siu Ching" migrated from a stopover area in coastal China to a likely wintering area on Nga Man Thaung Island, Myanmar! Follow along!

During nesting, Nordmann's Greenshank primarily consume small fish - Ninespine Sticklebacks. After catching, birds need to turn the fish so the spines don't interfere with swallowing. This is not especially graceful...Schaste Bay, 6 June 2019 #Russia #Endangered #EAAF #Shorebirds
Nordmann's Greenshank nest in trees and on the ground! In both cases they depend on Larch trees for protection from adverse weather and predators. Pictured is an incubating adult, the host sapling (can you spot the bird??), and chicks! Schaste Bay, Russian Far East, June 2021.
The only known footage of Nordmann's Greenshanks mating! Captured 5 June 2019 on a low tide mudflat of Schaste Bay, Russian Far East. #Endangered #EAAF #Shorebirds

Fantastic to see this coverage, both in text and in photos, of our work with bar-tailed #godwits and #wilsterflappers in the #WaddenSea, and how we try to develop #BirdEyes as a new centre of discovery and outreach @univgroningen in Leeuwarden. @NIOZnieuws @IBED_UvA #flyway
