Throughout the campaign, we shared their inspiring stories—what led them to cardiology and what being part of CRY means to them.

“It is the saddest thing in the whole tragedy that we’ve been through, to know that her death could have been prevented if that ECG from the year before had been interpreted correctly”.
In this vital national article, which has been shared across six key ITV regions, CRY supporter @Hils_Nicholls, CRY CEO @Drstevenjcox, and Professor @MichaelPapadak2 discuss with ITV News the critical need for ECGs to be read by specialists in order to prevent the misinterpretation of results.
Hilary, whose daughter Clarissa tragically died last year due to an undiagnosed heart condition, had previously had an ECG after collapsing during a sports event. Tragically, Clarissa was given the all-clear because her results were not read by a specialist.
Dr. Steve Cox states, “If your child has gone to A&E and is having an ECG, you want to know that the person reading it is a specialist, knows exactly what they’re looking for.”

.@Hils_Nicholls's story about losing her daughter to cardiac arrest at such a young age is heartbreaking.

We lose the equivalent of a state secondary school of young people each year to undiagnosed heart conditions. This has been the case since @CRY_UK started in 1995. A simple ECG can pick up these conditions and save lives. #shadowdhsc #preventativehealthcare

"This silent killer affects mainly those people who are actually quite fit."
An estimated twelve people aged between 14 and 35 in the UK, die every week from sudden cardiac death, often with no prior symptoms, according to the charity Cardiac Risk.
