Michigan's CARS database — the Secretary of State's driver and ID system — automatically generates voter registrations. Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf @SheriffLeaf says it just cost a man who was doing everything the right way: "Homeland Security sent this man a letter advising him they were suspending his application for citizenship because he was registered to vote for several years as a noncitizen." Local clerks told the state there was no signature on the application. The state kept him on the rolls anyway — for years, without his knowledge. Automatic isn't the same as accurate. @JocelynBenson @MichSoS @dananessel @MItownships @TheJusticeDept @FBI @POTUS

What you’re seeing here is what we call a voter trap house in Detroit: an address with an unusual or unexplained concentration of registered voters. This house is vacant. Yet 13 voters are registered here — 9 of them voting from overseas. And this isn’t an isolated address. Detroit has thousands of vacant homes, raising serious questions about what is hiding in the voter rolls. See the evidence for yourself: TRAPPED.vote @theadvocate42 @pastorzosewell

Detroit’s voter rolls have a problem. TRAPPED tells the story through the people living it — Advocate Ramon Jackson, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, and a system that’s failed them and their entire community.
