Reflections on week 2 of the World Cup including group structure, a big victory which meant little, the women's World Cup chasm and even a little bit of positivity!

Only the World Cup can produce such human-interest stories like this one!
Nixon Putt’s family and friends hiked 7 days on foot from the Highlands just to see him play for PNG. It’s too expensive to fly, driving not possible. Ran out of food, went without sleep to get there in time. Incredible effort #rugbyleague #nrl Coming up in sport on @7NewsSydney.

Imagine the feeling of dread if you're a thief and then realise the person you stole from is Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook's wife and you see him chasing after you 😂

Feel very conflicted about this World Cup, as I'm sure most English rugby league fans do.
So many amazing stories, games, nations - like Australia v Fiji right now. It looks unbelievable. But obviously for English fans, it's happening at a funny time of the day, the format is obviously crap, the paywall.. but that really shouldn't detract from the bigger picture. Big crowds, big stories, loads of colour, rising nations. It's okay to not feel part of it but still acknowledge that it's been a great tournament. Two things can be true simultaneously.
If English fans come across as down on what has been a great tournament, there are reasons why. We're detached from it on this side of the world - not helped by the men's team effectively being out three days into it starting!
The crowds for the World Cup have been outstanding 👏

By the time Samoa play Tonga next weekend, one of their places in the semi final is guaranteed.
For the other, it will be highly likely. I wonder if either or both will rest players?
Australia v England in the women's World Cup kicks off imminently. Good luck England, this is going to be an almighty challenge!
Just 90 minutes until #EnglandRL Women face Australia Jillaroos ⏰

You could argue the format, as shit as it is, actually makes the blowouts way more interesting

Hasn’t the group structure made this game more meaningful? England need to put as many points on France as possible to have any hope of progressing. In previous tournaments, with England virtually assured a quarter-final place, this game would’ve had almost nothing riding on it.
All England need to do is beat Papua New Guinea, hope Tonga beat Samoa and between those matches, there is a 69 plus points difference swing in England's favour.
Everything about this is depressing. How bad France are. A group structure that has rendered most games meaningless. England cruising to victory but it all feeling so pointless.
Rise and shine! Are you awake? Then you must be a glutton for punishment too!
England and France are both aiming for their first win at the World Cup at the second attempt. The loser is out. The winner is probably also out but it isn't guaranteed!
I don't think people are talking about Papua New Guinea enough in this World Cup.
Played very well last week. Win against either Samoa or England (their underdogs but not impossible) and they've a very live chance of progressing.
