Ska man vara mest orolig över AI:s rekursiva självförbättring eller över rekursiv självförsämring hos någon av ledarna Trump, Putin eller Xi? Avseende existentiella risker för mänskligheten.

the negative case against AI gets stronger every day; even Altman admits the problems are very serious with no obvious solution. the positive case, meanwhile, looks weaker every day. a quote from Apollo’s Torsten Slok: “Despite massive investments and widespread hype around artificial intelligence, the technology has delivered zero financial payoff to corporate America outside of tech. Revenue per worker is… flat for the S&P 493…. Profit margins are… flat for the S&P 493…. No signs of AI boosting [measured] productivity growth…. Mainstream corporate America is pulling back and starting to view token spending… as a cost center…. Mainstream corporate America does not need the latest model and is unwilling to pay for it. As long as agentic AI and token spending are confined to a small part of the economy, the macroeconomic effects of AI will be very limited.” apollo.com/wealth/insights-n…

I find it fascinating the AI companies can't use their AI to figure out how to be profitable... What does that say about the entire industry?

Looking forward to seeing if there are any companies at all that have increased their profit growth rate this quarter, by using AI tools. Couldn't find any last Q. The AI tool producers themselves (Nvidia etc) don't count, since they rely on an end user benefitting eventually.

You do not measure the depth of a universal mystery with the neural network of a primate…
It cannot be understood… It cannot be brought under the aegis of rational apprehension… Reality outran apprehension… You do not measure the depth of a universal mystery with the neural network of a primate… Our role is not to understand but to appreciate… T.M. (video by We Plants Are Happy Plants)

Cute... "From the ore to the suit" Yes. In due time. You had me at "ore" Permits, ore, watts and robots bootstrapping to utopia. Yeah, in a hundred years. This will take a lot of time! --Thus spoke the miner

When Renaissance had a functional equity trading algorithm it closed the fund for outsiders. I would expect the AI labs to do the same. An IPO, and having clients at all, signals the models have little intrinsic value - far from God like powers. Good for making manga and CRM...

Say you run the fuel desk at an American utility. An investor asks what you think of the spot price, and you look at him like a tourist. Your bonus depends on one thing: every reactor gets its fuel on time. If one runs short, nobody remembers what you saved per pound. This summer, desks like yours paid a record price to lock in uranium. If you own uranium stocks, your shares went the other way. The last time buyers paid this much... It took a flood. On October 22, 2006, water broke through a rock wall 465 metres under northern Saskatchewan. It filled the richest uranium mine ever found. Cigar Lake was built to supply a tenth of the world’s uranium, and it took almost eight years to produce its first pound. Utilities had spent the 1990s running down inventories and feeding reactors on dismantled Soviet warheads. Now the mine that was going to refill them was a lake. Spot ran from $56 to $136 in eight months. The contract price set a record of $95 that stood for nineteen years. The contract price passed $95 in June and reached $96.50 in August. And no mine flooded this time.

Regarding frontier AI lab IPOs: please note that we're at the stage where VC firms and other professional investors can't/won't fund the AI experiment any longer, but have to dump the companies on retail investors/mutuals at fantasy valuations, hoping the last 200B capex is enough

Fastighetsaktier, 5 dagars ROC.
