Happening Now: Governor Glenn Youngkin and Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger greet reporters after having lunch at the Executive Mansion with their spouses. @8NEWS
It’s a really strong point by @DwayneYancey that I have been thinking about since reading the indictment.
Who are the other legislators mentioned in the indictment?
Below is an expert from Dwayne’s article, which you should read at cardinalnews.org/2026/10/23/…
Good rundown from @DwayneYancey
This takeaway shouldn't be overlooked.
"8. Some legislators and other officials face potential embarrassment"
Just to be perfectly clear, none of the other unnamed legislators are charged with a crime, and I’m not suggesting they did anything criminal.
I am just pointing out as @DwayneYancey did that other legislators are mentioned in the indictment.
I have reached out to @GenBert2026's campaign for comment, but they have not provided one yet.
New: I asked @MarkWarner about the @SenLouiseLucas indictment.
"Anytime you've got criminal charges like this, they're serious," said Warner. "You're presumed innocent until the facts or the case proves otherwise."
"Why are they releasing this, what, 11 days before the election? Why didn't they do it earlier, or do it right after the election?"
House Minority Leader @delterrykilgore on @SenLouiseLucas.
“The charges against Senator Lucas are serious, and go beyond the world of politics. They will be resolved via our judicial system, as they should. House Republicans will continue to do what we’ve been doing all along: working to make life more affordable for all Virginians.”
On @SenLouiseLucas, @SpeakerDonScott says in part, "The Trump administration’s weaponization of the justice system is deeply troubling — as are the allegations made in this indictment. Today we have heard only from the Trump administration, and Senator Lucas will have her chance to respond to these charges in court.”
Breaking: On @SenLouiseLucas, Governor Abigail Spanberger says in part, "In our American system of justice, people are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and that is true for Senator L. Louise Lucas. She and her family deserve the opportunity to present their defense and speak to the allegations presented."
Spanberger added, "The timing of this indictment undermines the U.S. Department of Justice’s previously longstanding policy of not taking legal actions — to include indictments or significant investigative steps — close to an election and sadly, this timing further erodes the trust the American people deserve to have in the Department of Justice.”
Senate GOP reacts to Lucas indictment

ALT Statement by Senate Republican Leader Ryan McDougle. "The federal indictment contains serious allegations, and the justice system will continue to do its job and get to the bottom of it. While the constitutional process plays out, I will have no additional comment. “Virginia Senate Republicans continue to focus on state legislative policies that will make the lives of Virginia families more affordable. Delivering real results on keeping more money in your pocket is where our attention stays."
Republican Delegate @WrenWilliamsVA says @SenLouiseLucas should resign.
House Majority Leader @C_Herring has no comment on the @SenLouiseLucas indictment.
She says she hasn’t read it.
The Lucas indictment claims that some of @SenLouiseLucas's alleged actions happened on state property "at her legislative office at the Capitol complex in Richmond."
On @SenLouiseLucas, Senate Majority Leader @ssurovell says in part, “The federal indictment unsealed this week contains serious allegations, and Senator Lucas is entitled to the same presumption of innocence that every American receives. She is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I will not comment on the evidence in this case, and I urge others to show the same restraint.”
Full statement is below.
According to @cnn, "A Virginia grand jury has indicted Democratic state Sen. L. Louise Lucas and several others, including members of her family, on charges that she engaged in a racketeering conspiracy to sell marijuana and launder the proceeds."

On Monday, I joined @DCNewsNow for Sunrise on The Hill to talk about the midterm elections in Virginia and the three proposed constitutional amendments on Virginians' ballots.
Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones opposes the proposed Dominon/NextEra merger.
According to a transcript of the video below released by his office, Jones says, in part, "Right now, in Virginia we have some foundational issues with our energy system that we have to address: the grid is overworked, we need more energy to meet the demand that we have, and costs are too high for every single one of us.
And that’s exactly why we have opposed this merger in front of the SCC, because the transaction won’t do anything to address those fundamental issues."
