🧵This is the letter the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities sent Canada on February 3, 2021, voicing concerns on #BillC7, the expansion of MAID access. It can be found here as well. spcommreports.ohchr.org/TMRe…

Very important.
The Province of Ontario is seeking feedback on potential measures that would give increased power to the police and limit people's charter right to protest. Comment is open until October 31: regulatoryregistry.gov.on.ca…

Canada is so progressive that they're bailing GenAI companies before everyone else I despise this sack of shit in a human body that is Mark Carney. The GenAI bubble is popping in China and this pos is stealing our money and giving it to a company linked to Palantir Fucking 🤡
Mark Carney announces investment in AI firm Cohere: "Canada is taking a major step forward in artificial intelligence. We are not waiting for the future of AI to be decided somewhere else by those we don't know or by whom we don't trust."

The sadly now late but forever great PATRICK STEWART made one of the great guest appearances as the ‘debonair’ star conductor of the Seattle Opera Guild - Alistair Burke - in one of my favourite episodes of FRASIER (2003) RIP Sir Patrick (1940-2026)

How did they add $3B to the deficit since the spring statement while failing to deliver all alloted funding ($600M disappeared from ed alone)? And Niagara flood victims haven't received any form of aid. People continue to be at risk of losing their homes. #DougFordIsCorrupt
NEW: The Ontario government says its deficit for the current fiscal year is now expected to be $16.9B, up from the $13.8B it projected in its March budget, citing U.S. tariffs and higher oil prices #onpoli @globeandmail theglobeandmail.com/canada/a…

#ONpoli This is actually so much worse - this is just the deficit and doesn’t include the massive debts from capital spending. Probably an extra $30B-$40B of new debts on Ontario’s books just this year alone.
BREAKING: Ontario is in for more red ink, for longer. The Ford government is projecting a $16.9 billion deficit this fiscal year — $3.1 billion more than it forecast in the spring — and now doesn’t expect to balance the budget until 2029-30, a year later than planned.

The right wing opposition to MAID is the opposite of helpful. Instead of being rooted in the coercive, predatory, discriminatory nature of MAID, it’s rooted in religion and vibes, giving MAID proponents endless opportunity to ignore the human rights side of the opposition.

How has this gargantuan debt improved Ontario, turnips? Education and healthcare are collapsing. Housing situation is fucking abysmal. Taxpayers are paying the mob billions to pretend to build public transit. People are leaving Ontario in record numbers, like we did.

Ontario is half a trillion in debt. Interest payment on debt is the fourth-largest line item in the provincial budget. It's fantastic for the bust out. It leaves Ontario broke, in debt, with no assets to sell. A bankrupt government can't provide government services, see...

disabled Canadians would have liked to get more than a $4.20/m bump to the Canada Disability Benefit, but I suppose there are more important matters to 'invest' in. half of all PWD aren't even getting it due to restrictions and not auto enrolling everyone on provincial supports.

These issues are too important to play politics on – this is the obvious solution to split the Bill so that people can vote without a poison pill.
The Liberals’ new MAID, bill C-41, stops the mental health expansion but introduces another expansion, for people who've lost the capacity to consent. I asked the Speaker to split the bill so MPs can vote on these two fundamentally different issues separately.

If AI was going to liberate the working class, computers would have already done so. Between the late 1970's and 2019, worker productivity in Canada grew 60%. Did you get 60% fewer work hours with the same quality of life? No. AI won't liberate you under capitalism either.
A lot of dumb lazy people think we will all get UBI when AI takes your job This is wishful thinking. Wealthy people will profit while getting free time, working class people will not This isn’t communism. The “savings” from AI will go to billionaires

@Blind_Kindness is someone for whom I have great respect. I am reposting her post that states a harsh and accurate reality for Canadians with disabilities. This would also include Americans with disabilities IMO. Both countries' leaders need to do better. Thank you, Elizabeth.

Don't forget that "Circular Materials" is Loblaws, Pepsico, Clorox, A&W, Sobeys, Kraft Heinz, Proctor and Gamble, Restaurant Brands (Tim's), Nestle and Costco. They sell all the stuff that needs to be recycled. They would prefer to incinerate it all.
Alarming scoop from Patty Winsa: @fordnation govt's recycling reforms are off the rails, triggering a proposal to cancel curbside collection of flexible plastics and overflow recycling bags, as well as delivery of extra requested recycling boxes thestar.com/business/ford-go…
