[ON AIR] First, it was @CityofJoburgZA Mayor @DadaMorero facing a heated confrontation with residents. Now, the @DWS_RSA Minister Pemmy Majodina is under fire after a video showed her appearing to swear at a disabled resident during a community meeting in the Kouga Municipality, Eastern Cape. These incidents raise a bigger question: what is happening between politicians and the communities they are supposed to serve? Something cool happened last Thursday at the University of the Free State (@UFSweb) for someone who didn’t attend their graduation ceremony because of Covid.
I received the 40th Chancellor’s Distinguished Young Alumni Award (2026) in respect of #mentalhealth advocacy work.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Kamau Ngamau, has this afternoon hosted Prof. Lynette Jacobs, Head of Internationalisation at the @UFSweb (UFS), South Africa, at our Main Campus, Karen, Nairobi. The deliberations focused on activities surrounding the mandate of both institutions, including academic programmes, research, and innovation. UFS has identified the co-operative business model as a key area of interest and is keen on collaborating with @CoopVarsityKE to better understand the models and how best they can be utilised for socio-economic growth in the African Continent. Discussions focused on the areas of agriculture, mining, and the health sector, and innovations around these spaces would be of keen interest. Prof Jacobs was accompanied by Ms Lilian Njeri Munene, founder of Ayenit Alolom Africa. Also present at the meeting were Peres Agola - Business Solutions Manager, Nation Media Group, Prof Kennedy Waweru, Director, Research and Innovation, Prof Wycliffe Oboka, Director, Cooperative Development, and Dr Victor Wambua, Coordinator, Cooperative Development.

[ON AIR] A new study by the @UFSweb has found that dozens of sanitary pads and pantyliners sold in South Africa contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) — even when marketed as “free from harmful chemicals.” The findings raise serious questions about product labelling, consumer safety and regulatory oversight, particularly given the long-term health risks associated with repeated exposure to these substances.
