This week in Kinshasa 🇨🇩, #UNSSuRGeTeam teamed up with @MONUSCO and the DRC National Security Council on how the national #SecuritySectorReform Monitoring Commission can function in the best possible way.

This workshop, held during 19 – 21 October, aimed at preparing the launch of the commission, strengthened the capacities of its Technical Working Group to support effective implementation and oversight of efforts.

The UAE 🇦🇪, represented by @moiuae, hosted a meeting of the Strategic Police Advisory Group (SPAG) at the UAE Mission to the UN, featuring a briefing on “Police, Rule of Law and Security Sector Reform Support in Somalia.”
The meeting reviewed UN support to Somalia, including efforts to strengthen police capacities, promote the rule of law, and support security sector reform.
The UAE reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to supporting peace and stability around the world and strengthening international cooperation to build more capable and effective national security institutions, contributing to security, stability and sustainable development in Somalia and other conflict-affected contexts.

The @_AfricanUnion, and @ecowas_cedeao in collaboration with #GIZ Support to ECOWAS on Peace, Security and Governance (#EPSG) and the Sierra Leone Parliament with support from the UN #SSuRGeTeam, has commenced a 3-day (6–8 October 2026) capacity-building workshop on Strengthening Parliamentary Oversight of the Defence, National Security and Internal Affairs Committees in #Bo, #SierraLeone 🇸🇱.
The workshop brings together Members of parliament, parliamentary stakeholders, relevant partners and media outlets to strengthen accountable and democratic security governance.
Effective parliamentary oversight is at the heart of democratic security governance.
Over the next three days, Sierra Leonean parliamentarians will have an opportunity to exchange experiences, examine practical lessons and strengthen their understanding of security-sector oversight.
