We need to make American ships again, and @RussVought and the @WHOMB team recognize the importance of shipbuilding to our national security. I applaud Russ and the Trump administration for continuing to advance this critical priority.

China will build three of every four large cargo ships ordered this year.
America will build fewer than one in 100.
In a Pacific conflict, America won't have enough ships to keep its troops supplied.
But there is a way to address this critical security risk: the Strategic Commercial Fleet program. The SCF would triple the American fleet and use market economics to reduce costs for taxpayers.

America’s maritime strength is critical to our economic and national security.
At @HudsonInstitute, I discussed how the SHIPS for America Act would help rebuild American shipbuilding and ensure the United States can compete with China.
“Be relentless.”
America has the workers, industrial capacity, and determination to rebuild our maritime strength. Now we need to stay focused on the mission: getting the SHIPS for America Act across the finish line.
A powerful message from yesterday’s @HudsonInstitute discussion on the future of American shipbuilding. 🇺🇸⚓

America used to be the leader in shipping and shipbuilding. We let that slip away. My SHIPS for America Act is how we get back to it: Great-paying jobs, stronger supply chains, and a fleet worthy of America. ⚓️

Chinese ships carry appliances, clothing, and household goods to America’s ports.
But what if they also brought missile launchers concealed in shipping containers? This is a possibility we must prepare for.

So do we - let's get it done!

Today, on National Maritime Day, we honor the generations of American workers who built and sustained the vessels that powered our economy, supported our military, and connected our nation to the world.
We also honor those who continue to build, maintain, and man our fleets.
The United States cannot afford to fall further behind in shipbuilding, repair, and maritime logistics. Rebuilding America’s maritime strength starts with investing in U.S. yards, U.S. workers, and U.S. supply chains.
Let’s end the Jones Act waivers, implement provisions of the Maritime Action Plan and pass the SHIPS for America Act, and end the discussion of offshoring the future of shipbuilding.
We can do this.
