Yesterday, I was pleased to meet with Colombia’s Minister of Trade Mauricio Gómez Amín. In our meeting, I shared my and the entire Trump Administration’s condolences and steadfast support for President De la Espriella and the Colombian people as they continue recovery and rebuilding efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10.
The earthquake has presented a difficult and early challenge to President De la Espriella’s presidency. At USTR, we are committed to strengthening our economic and trade ties, including through the expeditious negotiation of an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, and I am confident that we will achieve much working together with Minister Gómez Amín and his team. We have already made progress on several longstanding issues and look forward to continued engagement in the near future to put our trading relationship on an even better path.
