xitter.cf/USMMWWII/status/211377… Sadly, scenes like this were all too common in 1942 of the US coasts. The U-boat war was taking a terrible toll on US shipping, and this is an example of just one of those ships lost.
The SS Tiger (sinking) and under tow by the tug Relief after being torpedoed by U-754 on April 1, 1942. Under tow near Cape Henry, VA. Tiger, originally built as a freighter, was torpedoed by the German submarine U-754 just after midnight on 1 April 1942, after she had reduced speed to pick up a pilot before entering Chesapeake Bay. She sank in shallow water during salvage efforts on 2 April 1942. shipscribe.com/usnaux/ww1/sh…

I’m gearing up for my last ship launch at NASSCO this weekend. The past 3 years has been a great ride, and I’m thankful to the shipyard for all the things I’ve learned here and the great people I’ve gotten to work with! I can’t think of a better way to end this chapter than helping send USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg down the ways! More details next week on what’s coming next.

Could the stern section maintain power? If so, it may not have been too uncomfortable?

Today is the 229th anniversary of the launch of USS Constitution, the ship America calls Old Ironsides. On October 21, 1797, she slid into Boston Harbor as one of the first six ships of the United States Navy. In the War of 1812, British cannonballs bounced off her thick oak hull and sailors swore her sides were made of iron. The name stuck. She is still a commissioned U.S. Navy ship today, crewed by active-duty sailors, and the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world.

If you go to this website, it will tell you everything you need to know about the US merchant marine. They’re even featured at the World War II museum in New Orleans. Several of the interviews are from people that I have met in the past working with World War II veterans usmm.org/infomm.pdf

Hmmm….. Was at a Mall with my nephew. Saw a group of getto thugs. Also saw a guy with a WWII Merchant Marine hat. I stopped him and asked about his service. Torpedoed twice, survived the water, went on the next convoy. Asked nephew who was the real tough guy, gangbanger or him?

On Jul 5, 1944 SS Sea Porpoise, having just transported American troops to Normandy, was torpedoed – with Woody Guthrie on board. The ship was towed back to England for repairs. Guthrie, along with fellow folk singer Cisco Houston, disembarked and traveled by train from Southampton to Waterloo Station, as detailed in Jim Longhi's out-of-print book, "Woody, Cisco and Me: With Woody Guthrie in the Merchant Marine."

It was this guy. Then the Legacy Media wanted to hide this photo and his motive.
Elon Musk fired this man for attacking a woman who stepped on his prayer rug. Three months later, Ndiaga Diagne murdered three innocent people in downtown Austin. The warning signs were right there and Tesla acted on them. Our immigration system never did. Screen who we let in, or keep burying Americans.

It is deeply poignant to look back at these specific historical dates and remember the staggering human cost borne by merchant mariners, making posts like this so vital for keeping their silent sacrifices alive.
