What I appreciate about Mourinho is that he understands a big game isn’t won by looking pretty on the ball for 90 minutes. It is won by recognising where the opponent is vulnerable, preparing your players to exploit those weaknesses and making the right decisions when the match changes. Barcelona had their spells of possession, but Madrid remained dangerous going forward and found the decisive goal when the opportunity came. Mourinho will still have things to correct because winning a Clásico doesn’t make a team perfect. But beating Barcelona at the Camp Nou is a statement, and he deserves credit for the result and the mentality his team showed.
