There’s a lot of noise about Amendment B. Here’s the bottom line: a tax hike on every Utah family should have broad support. We sorted out what’s true and what isn’t.
Vote YES on B. 💛

Teacher unions protect teacher unions, not kids. 8 of the 10 states with the worst student literacy scores are teacher union strongholds. That’s not a coincidence. Spot on @alexisence

You don’t say? 👀 Kids, not unions.
@UTParentsUnited
Our kids are watching. They're growing up in a country that's 250 years old this year, and the kind of America they inherit depends on what we do right now. Today we remember why the Constitution matters, why parent voices matter, and why showing up will always matter. 🇺🇸
Today, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the courage and unity our nation showed on September 11, 2001.
May we teach the next generation to remember the sacrifice, cherish our freedom, and never forget. 🇺🇸

AI is reshaping childhood faster than most parents can track.
Our Attorney General AI Task Force meets regularly to confront the real risks to kids, from addictive design to online exploitation, and to act on them. Utah's children come first.

Google turned on AI in classrooms across the country without asking parents. School officials said they couldn't even track what was being switched on or off. Google seems unbothered. We are not. Opt-out letter is on our site — link in comments.
Former social media addict hopes Meta settlement is just the beginning of change fox13now.com/news/local-news…

Four years ago, Utah decided we were not going to sit back while social media companies built products that were harming our kids and then refused to take responsibility.
We took on Big Tech.
It has been a long and difficult fight, with lawsuits, legislation, court challenges, and plenty of criticism along the way. But today is a major milestone.
Utah has helped secure a landmark $12.2 billion settlement with Meta that will require sweeping changes to Instagram and Facebook's treatment of children and teens. The agreement includes stronger age assurance, time limits, nighttime restrictions, limits on notifications during school hours, stronger parental controls, protections against harmful content, and independent oversight to make sure the reforms actually work. Utah is expected to receive $212 million as part of the settlement.
This is one of the largest consumer protection settlements in American history, and the state describes it as the most far-reaching action any government has taken to make social media safer for young people.
I am proud that Utah has been at the tip of the spear on this issue. When we began this fight, there was no roadmap. We simply knew that parents needed more tools, kids deserved better protection, and enormously powerful technology companies needed to be held accountable for the consequences of the products they were designing.
Today's announcement did not happen because of one person or one bill. It has taken years of persistence and a tremendous team effort.
Thank you to Attorney General Derek Brown, Governor Spencer Cox, Senator Mike McKell, Senator Kirk Cullimore, Margaret Busse, Kathie Hass, Aimee Winder Newton, and the many legislators, attorneys, state employees, parents, advocates, and others who have pushed this effort forward.
There is still more work to do. But today is proof that states can stand up to some of the largest companies in the world and make a difference.
Utah led. Others joined. And our kids will be safer because of it.
Grateful to @AGDerekBrown for taking action to protect Utah kids online.
But this is just the beginning.
Meta is a social media giant, but @YouTube and @tiktok_us each take up more teen screen time than Instagram and Facebook. Apple and Google have take zero responsibility for their role in exposing children to harm.
One corner of the internet is being addressed. Some of the biggest corners where kids actually spend their time are still wide open.
There’s much more work to do. #appstoreaccountabilityact
This moment has been years in the making.
In March 2023, Utah Parents United was honored to stand alongside Gov. Spencer Cox, Sen. Mike McKell, Rep. Jordan Teuscher, the Attorney General’s Office, and others as Utah became the first state in the nation to enact comprehensive social media regulations designed to protect children and empower parents.
Utah led—and other states followed.
Today, we are grateful to see that fight continue. Thank you, Attorney General Derek Brown, for picking up the torch and helping secure this landmark settlement and new protections for kids online.
But our work is far from finished. YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and other platforms must follow suit. And we must continue advancing the App Store Accountability Act so parents have the ability to decide whether their children can download these apps in the first place.
We fundamentally believe parents cannot fully exercise their right to protect and guide their children while Big Tech is allowed to exploit children’s attention for profit.
Parents—not algorithms, platforms, or the attention economy—should be the primary influence in our children’s lives.
We were proud to be there when Utah led the nation in 2023, and we’re proud to still be fighting today.

As our kiddos head back to school, a lot of parents are thinking about AI in the classroom—and now is the time to ask questions.

Many Utah students will be interacting with AI tools through school-issued devices and accounts, including tools such as Google Gemini. Your school or district may also be using other AI-powered programs as part of classroom instruction.
Parents, get informed and get involved.
Ask your child’s teacher, principal, or school administrator:
* What AI tools will my child be using this year?
* Which AI features are enabled through my child’s school account?
* How will my child be interacting with AI?
* What options do I have if I don’t want my child using a particular AI tool?
If you have concerns about your child interacting with AI, ask about your options to opt out.
Child First Policy Center has created an AI Opt-Out Letter that parents can customize and provide to their school.
👉 Visit ChildFirstPolicy.org to get the letter.
Parents should have a meaningful voice in deciding how, when, and whether their children interact with AI.
This school year, don’t assume you know what technology your child is using. Ask. Get informed. And take an active role in your child’s AI use at school.
