ALT Statement on leaving Twitter/X. As a staff team and board we have made the decision to leave Twitter/X. Our audiences can continue to find our news and information on our website and newsletter, our other social media channels, and our new Bluesky account @universityofatypical.org We realise that community takes time to build, and we have not taken this decision lightly. However, on balance, we think that the case for leaving the platform significantly outweighs the case for staying. As an organisation, among our core values are Inclusion, Equality, Access, Disabled-Led, and Human Rights. Twitter/X has become incompatible with these commitments and values, and we do not feel that remaining on this platform is in the best interests of our organisation, artists and audiences, and the wider disabled community.

ALT As a disabled-led organisation, we stand in solidarity with d/Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent people and will continue to challenge the institutionalised oppression threatening their rights to an equitable existence. We support the rights of LGBTQIA+ people, the legitimacy of identities and their lived experiences. We welcome migrant communities and asylum seekers and we recognise that disability justice has and must be international and intersectional. We recognise that using other social media platforms such as Meta also require compromises which may be challenging to our core values. We believe that on balance these platforms remain important for many of the audiences we communicate with - particularly about funding and training opportunities - who may not hear about these in other ways. We will continue to assess our participation in other platforms in the coming months, and in line with our policies.
