It’s truly amazing how often a Terry Pratchett quote can be applied to contemporary affairs, a great author and observer who should replace some of the school ‘classics’ and deserves films, series & plays created from his stories more than some authors who already have them.

If Putin stops fighting, the war ends. If Zelensky stops fighting then his country will be occupied, leaders murdered, language banned, businesses stolen, children kidnapped. That's what happens in Russian-occupied Ukraine.

When it comes to large scale military conflicts, there is great strategic value in having no plan or goals whatsoever.

We've created a society where being suspicious of experts is considered critical thinking.
But being suspicious of conspiracy theories is considered closed-minded.

It wouldn’t be odd for the security services to change their mind over time, especially as more evidence becomes available, but given Russia’s long exposed manipulation of media from the cold war onwards what would odd is if they didn’t meddle in our elections and referendums.

Russia invaded Ukraine. The first country to surrender was the United States.
On the day they announce public executions, they attack the Court that prosecutes war crimes, which they’re not a signatory to so is no threat to their citizens. How can we operate alongside a country that denies the need for a court to prosecute war crimes.
I recognise they’re probably bots or disingenuous antagonists, but as someone who’s actually served in multiple real conflicts, I do just want to tell many people who respond some of my less flog ‘em all posts with ‘get a grip’.

Aged 18, I spent the summer of 1963 in the US. It seemed light years ahead of boring old Britain. Now I read of attempts to put a Tennessee woman to death with outdated drugs. In hospital afterwards she is handcuffed and chained to a bed. I love the US, but advanced it isn’t.

As a 50 year old man I find it utterly cringe that my generation calls younger people snowflakes, when they themselves lose their shit at a slight design change to a bottle cap or the packaging on some mince.

This is a brilliant blog about the reality of many of the changes being made to the IWM - if you are interested in war museums and challenges of operating them, this is well worth a read.
