Pumpkins:
Halloween is one night.
If you have to waste a food item (and I strongly suggest you don't), please put it out for one night, then dispose of it.
Please DO NOT put it out for the wildlife.
Once you've handled it, cut it, left it out in the open, unrefrigerated, it will not be hygienic or safe for anyone to eat.
Pumpkins are a low-acid vegetable, so once they are cut and left at room temperature, pathogens will rapidly grow on the flesh.
Our precious wildlife do not have any magical properties that protect them against food poisoning.
Additionally, this time of year there are baby hedgehogs around, born too late to find natural food, desperate to eat anything to stop the pain of starvation.
Pumpkin has a laxative affect so it would be particularly cruel to leave it out for starving wildlife to eat in desperation, causing them to lose precious fluids that may make the difference between life and death.
So no matter what you read elsewhere, please DO NOT put your discarded decoration out for the birds or any other wildlife.
It's waste, fit only for the bin.
🆘Please help get this vital message spread far and wide, to save precious lives and prevent suffering.🚨

Moss Side Repair Cafe is back this Saturday 10-12! Bring down your broken electrical items, clothing, furniture or bikes and a volunteer will fix them for FREE and show you how they do the repair. Please bring only one item so we can see as many people as possible!
On a brief stroll through this Moss Side alley, we saw 17 bees, 4 butterflies, 14 moths, & more (occasional hedgehog has been seen at dusk.)
The next alley, just tarmac with no plants, we saw just 1 bee & 1 butterfly.
Once unloved spaces can make such a change to urban nature!
In this wonderful weather please take one minute to do something today. Put out a dish of water. That's all. Sadly we have a lot of stray cats, and happily, we have hedgehogs in Moss Side. But these, and other sorts of wildlife need access to water and could die without it.
Now this looks fun! Beresford/ Rosebery St section of Claremont Road in Moss Side (behind the shops) and with a sunny forecast too!
🎨🌸 Join us for #ArtInTheAlleyway THIS FRIDAY from 4.30 - 6.30 pm! Paint planters, jazz up terracotta pots, and chalk up the alley with us. Watch Josh Wayles create a live mural! Free for everyone, snacks included!📍 Claremont Alleyway (behind Mr. Fries on Claremont Road, Hulme)

When you see a hedgehog out in the day time please remember he's been sick for a long time before taking this last desperate step.
He's dying.
IT'S AN EMERGENCY.
Take him indoors in the warmth and ring a rescue IMMEDIATELY.

Dropping off summer bedding plants around Moss Side gives us a perfect excuse to catch up with other alley greeners & see how their alleys are doing. It's nice to explore, appreciate nature in the city, feel a sense of well being, get inspiration and nick other people's ideas🙂
And lovely students: please continue the good neighbourliness as you leave: don't leave leave duvets and other stuff in our alleyways. And take photos of the house as you leave in case your landlord is a complete git and tries to unfairly knock money off the deposit.
👋 Students - if you are moving out this week, here is a little checklist for what to do with your stuff...
Recycle right ✅
Use your local tip ✅
Have big items collected ✅
Donate good items to charities ✅

Cheers and good luck 🍀
Summer plants huge donation for the Moss Side alleys from @ManCityCouncil : We're nearly there with dropping them off round the alleys! Just a few left to go! We've (just about) kept all the hundreds of plants well watered, so whilst we're drooping, at least the flowers aren't!😄
Work is ongoing to distribute the hundreds of wonderful bedding plants given to us by the @ManCityCouncil for the many greened up alleys of Moss Side.🙂
But oh the challenge of keeping them all watered and healthy in this weather whilst we try to get them out.....😳
Big thank you to @ManCityCouncil for donation of summer bedding plants for the alleys, and also to our neighbours, a bunch of community spirited students and their landlord @loafliving who kindly allowed us to store this rather large delivery in their back garden😀
