Richard Ramirez broke into homes across Los Angeles at night and killed 13 people. He was sentenced to death 19 times. He was never executed. He died of cancer on death row 24 years later - after marrying a woman who had written him dozens of love letters. The police didn't catch him. On August 31, 1985, his face hit the front page of every paper in LA. Within hours, residents of an East LA neighborhood recognized him, chased him down and beat him in the street until the cops arrived. In the video below, a reporter sits face to face with the Night Stalker in prison and asks him one simple question: are you evil? His answer is "We are all evil." He grew up as an altar boy in Texas. Years later, California would call him the human embodiment of evil. One of his victims, Bill Carns, survived three bullets to the head. A bullet is still lodged in his brain. "He stole my memory. He took my girlfriend. He took my career." Asked directly if he killed 13 people, Ramirez refuses to answer. Because of his appeals. Asked if he has emotions, he says: no comment. Asked if he worships the devil, he says he has studied Satanism. Then he explains what he finds in it: undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit. Power without charity. And then he finally answers the first question. Yes, I am evil. Not 100%. But I am evil. A perfect world, he says, will never come. And it's only going to get worse.
