Today, we participated in the repatriation of the remains of fallen soldiers between Russia and Ukraine, as agreed by the parties.
Each return helps families honour their loved ones and lay them to rest with dignity.
ALT Today, we participated in the repatriation of the remains of fallen soldiers between Russia and Ukraine, as agreed by the parties. Since 2022, we have supported and observed 69 such repatriations. Behind every repatriation are families who have waited for months or years. Each one is a step towards giving the dead back their names, while laying them to rest with dignity can finally allow families to grieve. We remain committed to supporting efforts to uphold the dignity of the deceased and promote the respectful handling of their remains. The responsibility for identifying the deceased and returning their remains to their families lies with the parties to the conflict.

If there’s a treaty on AI weapons one day, Alexander Kmentt will be one of the reasons why.
The Austrian diplomat has spent 25 years in disarmament. He worked on the landmine ban and was a central figure behind the treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons. In 2024 he brought 144 states to Vienna and led Austria’s push to take talks on autonomous weapons to the UN General Assembly.
Even now, with international law under pressure, he keeps going.
