After the Northampton game last Saturday I messaged a friend saying “I can’t see things improving any time soon”. A week is a long time in football!😳 But I genuinely believe a large part of that improvement has come from the change in formation. Artell said after yesterday’s game he has never been wedded to one formation and is happy to switch it up but, if he’s being honest, we have only ever switched to 3-5-2 when the team has been struggling or injuries have forced his hand… So why wait until then? It makes us more compact defensively, suits players attributes better and gives us more bodies going forward. Its no coincidence Green has been back to his best these past 2 games and affected play more. Im sure Artell has valid reasons for preferring 4-3-3 but far too often this season it has been more like 4-5-1. Throw Staunton in the mix at LWB, Foulkes at RWB and McJannet LCB and it looks even stronger. This squad of players have answered critics continually over the last 3 seasons so it was no surprise they stood up and were counted this week when we needed them most. Next Saturday will be another big test of that mentality at a full BP vs a good York side. Gills match reaction pod out later today inc the thoughts of former #GTFC striker Martin Gritton… 🗣️

A point probably a fair result on the balance of play but once again we’ve not killed off a team when we’ve had them on the ropes and missed guilt edged chances. Overall a much better performance tonight but a large part of that was down to the switch in formation. We had more control of the ball, more of a presence up top, won a lot more second balls and it suited key players such as Green who was a lot more involved. Enforced or not, we have to stick with it. Foulkes MOTM in my opinion. A RB making his first league start as LCB! But put in a very competent display and looked after the ball well. Has a lot to offer this side. #GTFC

Up there with one of his more delusional interviews for a while to be fair… #GTFC

The inquest will no doubt be put on hold for this evening out of respect for Pruti’s injury but tough questions will need to be asked of Artell sooner rather than later… Seemingly that starting XI was enforced but it was worrying to say the least and how he doesn’t change it at HT is beyond me after our worst half of football all season. Performances have got steadily worse over all 4 of the consecutive defeats and now with only 3 fit defenders at the club and zero in form attacking players it’s hard to see where the next point is coming from… #GTFC

Unlocking the best form and attributes of Kieran Green will be key to Towns fortunes again this season. So far he has arguably been part of the problem but he can undoubtably be a big part of the cure too, hopefully starting this Saturday. Though it may need a tweak to his current role in the side to enable that… #GTFC
