I know the #CommonwealthKabaddiChampionship 2026 may not be at the top of everyone’s watch list. But it’s certainly on mine. And I couldn’t be happier to see the world slowly catching the Kabaddi bug! Watching the championship, I found myself thinking back to a conversation over 15 years ago, when I was contemplating the launch of @ProKabaddi. A friend who was then running @NBA International enthusiastically endorsed the idea. She couldn’t understand why India wasn’t doing more to promote a sport that seemed tailor-made for television. A compact court. Non-stop action. Powerful athletes in muscular confrontations. And matches short enough to hold the attention of a generation with shrinking attention spans. What’s not to like? India still rules the Kabaddi court, as this clip shows. But as the game spreads around the world, I suspect that supremacy will be challenged sooner than we think. And I look forward to that day. Because when that happens, the real winner will be Kabaddi, India’s own ancient sport.
