A friendly reminder that of the 113 WHL players born in 2009, only 2 play for the @PentictonVees as the WHL prohibited the Vees from taking any 2009s in the 2025 WHL Expansion Draft (and 2009s were drafted into the WHL the year before Penticton entered the WHL).

Good Luck, Whit!

Notes from the @PentictonVees 4-1 win over Edmonton on 10/25/26:
When the Penticton Vees play Penticton Vees-style hockey the winning team is usually the Penticton Vees.
On Sunday afternoon, the Vees hit everything in sight, dumped and chased, forechecked and played really good hockey. Let's take a look:
π Penticton scored 4 goals on 23 shots against Edmonton, a 17.4% shooting percentage.
Over the past 2 games:
Penticton | 8 goals | 50 shots | 16.0%
Opponents | 3 goals | 54 shots | 5.6%
π The Vees held Edmonton to just 21 shots, their 4th-lowest shots-against total through 15 games and their lowest in the past 5 games.
Game 6 | Tri-City | 14 shots
Game 4 | Vancouver | 16 shots
Game 10 | Portland | 20 shots
Game 11 | Wenatchee | 21 shots
Game 15 | Edmonton | 21 shots
Penticton has allowed 54 shots over its past 2 games, while surrendering just 3 goals.
π 2008 G Kaenan Smith stopped 20 of 21 shots to record his 2nd straight win.
Over the past 2 games:
Red Deer | 31/33 | .939
Edmonton | 20/21 | .952
Total | 51/54 | .944
Smith allowed just 3 goals in 120 minutes during the 2 wins and his 1.91 goals against average is 2nd in the WHL, while his .917 save percentage is 10th in the league.
π 2009 LW Boomer DeMars (shown below) has goals in both of Penticton's last 2 wins.
DeMars had a slow start after missing all of training camp with an upper body injury and it is fitting that DeMars and the Vees are both heating up at the same time.
π The Vees have killed 7 straight successful penalties during their 2-game winning streak. Penticton's penalty kill was 3/3 against Edmonton after going 4/4 against Red Deer on Friday.
On the season, the PK is 47/60 (78.3%), which is 15th in the WHL.
π The power play numbers for the Vees do not tell the entire story as Penticton went 0/2 with the man advantage, but the 3rd period goal by Boomer DeMars might as well have been a PP goal as he scored :01 after the penalty expired.
Officially, the Vees are now 0/10 on the power play over its past 3 games and 21st in the WHL at 8/61 (13.1%).
π Penticton won 18 of 40 faceoffs (45.0%) against Edmonton.
Over the past 2 games:
Red Deer | 17/59 | 28.8%
Edmonton | 18/40 | 45.0%
Total | 35/99 | 35.4%
π Penticton won 18 of 40 draws (45.0%) against Edmonton.
Over the past 2 games, the Vees have won only 35 of 99 faceoffs (35.4%), including a 28.8% performance against Red Deer.
Red Deer | 17/59 | 28.8%
Edmonton | 18/40 | 45.0%

π 2008 D Eli Johnson, 2009 D Whit Rewertz, 2006 LW Tristan Petersen and 2007 LW Tucker Robertson were not in the lineup.
Petersen last played Wednesday vs. Calgary.
π And finally, the instigator strikes again as 2006 RW Carter Cunningham fought Edmonton's Kanjyu Gojsic after Gojsic retaliated to a clean check on a teammate with a cross check to the side of Cunningham's head.
Unsportsmanlike conduct penalties go to @TheWHL referees Josh Albinati & Jackson Kozari for calling a silly instigator instead of a far more dangerous stick foul.

Penticton's 12.64 PIMs per game is 19th.
π 2008 G Kaenan Smith is 4th in the WHL with a 2.08 goals against average and his .911 save percentage is 12th in the league.

Notes from the @PentictonVees 4-2 win over Red Deer on 10/23/26:
The Vees finally put their 7-game winless streak behind them, playing outstanding hockey for really all but 32 seconds of the 2nd period as they picked up their 1st victory since Oct. 3.
The positives far outweiged the negatives in this one. Let's take a look.
π After scoring just 4 goals on 144 shots (2.8%) in their previous 4 games, we can now retire this stat as the Vees exploded for 4 goals on 27 shots (14.8%) against Red Deer.
Penticton scored as many goals against Red Deer (4) as they had in the previous 4 games combined.
π During the 7-game winless streak, Penticton outshot its opponents 236-184 (+52) and won the shot count in 6 of 7 games, but was outscored 28β12.
The Vees flipped the script vs. Red Deer, picking up the win despite being outshot 33-27, the 3rd-highest shot total allowed this season and the highest number of shots allowed in the past 7 games.
Penticton is 2nd in the WHL in fewest shots allowed per game (25.79).
π2008 G Kaenan Smith (shown below) continues his strong play in goal, stopping 31 of 33 shots and lowering his goals against average to 2.08, which is 6th in the WHL.
Smith has been in goal for 3 of Penticton's 5 victories this season, despite appearing in only 6 of the team's 14 games.
π 2007 RW Gavin Katz scored his team-leading 8th goal against Red Deer and is ranked 14th in WHL scoring with 14 points in 14 games.
Katz has 8 of Penticton's 34 goals this season, which is 23.5% of the team's goal production.
π While the Vees may have ended their winless drought and their scoring drought, the power play drought continues.
The Vees went 0/3 with the man advantage and are now 0/8 in their last 2 games and 3/36 (8.3%) in their last 8 games.
π Another area where the Vees struggled was in the faceoff circle.
After winning a season-high 69.4% of their faceoffs against Wenatchee on Oct. 16, the Vees have seen their faceoff percentage decline in each of the last 3 games.
Wenatchee | 43/62 | 69.4%
Vancouver | 38/70 | 54.3%
Calgary | 34/73 | 46.6%
Red Deer | 17/59 | 28.8%
Total | 132/264 | 50.0%

π 2009 D Whit Rewertz, 2008 D Eli Johnson, 2007 LW Tucker Robertson and 2006 LW Tristan Petersen were not in the lineup. Petersen's playing status remains unknown.
π 2007 D Callum Stone fought Red Deerβs Patrick Sopiarz in the 1st period, while 2008 D Sean Burick *dropped the gloves* in the 2nd period with Cameron Kuzma.
Which leads us to ask, why were Burick and Kuzma both given fighting majors when they simply held each other and neither threw a punch?
And why was Kuzma given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when he very obviously started the *fight*?
We can all agree that the instigator is a stupid penalty, but the only unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on this play should be given to @TheWHL refereees Kayden Knutson and Mason Stewart.
This was either 2 fighting majors and an instigator or 2 roughing minors and an unsportsmanlike conduct.

Notes from @PentictonVees 4-3 loss to Calgary | @TheWHL | Regular Season Game 13 | 10/21/26
Last season, the Vees were an expansion club that never played like an expansion club, setting a CHL record for wins and points by a first-year club.
This season, the Vees have been playing like the expansion team that everyone expected last season, now winless in 7 games (0-6-0-1) with 6 straight losses.
During the past 2 weeks, the Vees have stunk up the joint, showing poor discipline, poor special teams play and very little of the special sauce that made last season special.
The numbers are not pretty, but let's dig in:
πAfter scoring 1 goal on 118 shots over a span of 210:27 in the past week, the Vees scored 3 goals on 34 shots against Calgary.
The Vees have now scored 4 goals on 144 shots (2.8%) over their last 4 games and 12 goals on 236 shots (5.1%) during the 7-game winless streak.
π Penticton went 0/5 on the power play and during the 7-game winless streak, the Vees are 3/33 (9.1%) on the man advantage.
π The Vees finally found some offence in Calgary, but the game results still arenβt matching the shot totals.
Last four games:
Penticton shots: 144
Opponent shots: 98
Penticton goals: 4
Opponent goals: 13
π After winning 61.4% of their faceoffs over Games 11β12, the Vees struggled in the faceoff circle against Calgary, winning just 34/73 (46.6%).
Game 11 | 43/62 | 69.4%
Game 12 | 38/70 | 54.3%
Game 13 | 34/73 | 46.6%

Faceoffs against Calgary:

π 2009 D Whit Rewertz, 2010 D Parker Deraney, 2007 LW Tucker Robertson and 2008 C Noah Milford were not in the lineup.
π And finally, as we continue to track goals and assists for @TheWHL officials, congratulations are in order for linesman Josh Meier, who set a new WHL record by earning 2 goals on 1 blown call.
With 3:08 remaining in the 1st period, 2007 RW Tyden Bergeson appeared to score a shorthanded goal, but replays show that Meier missed the offsides call and the goal was overturned.
On the very next play, Calgary scored.
Goals: Meier (2)

2007 C Cam Norrie moves to C1 from C4
2006 RW Carter Cunningham returns to the lineup at RW1

π 2009 D Whit Rewertz, 2010 D Parker Deraney, 2007 LW Tucker Robertson and 2008 C Noah Milford are not in the lineup.
π The Vees are 0-5-0-1 in their last 6 games, including 5 straight regulation losses. Penticton has allowed the opening goal in all 6 games.
For the Vees to win tonight, these 3 stats will need to drastically change:
π The Vees have scored just 1 goal in their last 210:27 of play. During that span, Penticton has 118 shots on goal (0.8% shooting percentage).
π The Vees are 3-for-28 (10.7%) on the power play during their 6-game winless streak.
π The Vees have outshot opponents 110β71 over their last 3 games, but have been outscored 9β1.

Notes from the @PentictonVees 5-1 loss to Vancouver on 10/17/26:
If the Vees were playing farm hockey and had a power play, not only would the shot miss the broad side of the barn, but the puck would hit the tractor, leading to a short-handed breakaway goal and an undisciplined penalty by the Vees for high-sticking a farm hand.
π The scenario above is not so silly when you consider these mind-boggling statistics around the horrid Vees offence:
1οΈβ£ The Vees failed to score on 99 shots before the 2nd period goal by 2007 RW Gavin Katz.
The Vees then failed to score on 17 shots after the goal by Katz and now have scored 1 goal on their last 118 shots which is an abysmal 0.8% shooting percentage.
2οΈβ£ The Vees have scored 1 goal in the last 210 minutes, 27 seconds -- or roughly 3 1/2 games.
3οΈβ£ The goal by Katz was on the power play, which also broke a 0/18 drought with man advantage.
4οΈβ£ The Vees PP is now 1/21 (4.8%) since 2008 RW Noel Pakarinen's goal at 6:32 of the 2nd period against Brandon on 10/9.
π I usually poo-poo the 3 Stars of the Game as they are subjective and can favour the home team.
But with the Vees in the midst of a 6-game winless streak -- the longest in the WHL this season -- stars are a pretty good barometer of the recent play of this entire team:
10/6 | Home vs. Swift Current | 3-2 SO loss | Andrew Reyelts, 2nd star
10/9 | Home vs. Brandon | 7-4 loss | Graham Jones, 3rd star
10/10 | Away at Tri-City | 5-2 loss | No Vees star
10/14 | Home vs. Portland | 2-0 loss | No Vees star
10/16 | Away at Wenatchee | 2-0 loss | No Vees star
10/17 | Home vs. Vancouver | 5-1 loss | No Vees star
The Vees have had a total of 2 stars in the last 6 games or 2/18 (11.1%) -- which is nearly identical to the Penticton power play during the 6-game skid (3/28 10.7%).
π Penticton recorded season highs in shots in consecutive games:
Game 11 at Wenatchee | 40 shots
Game 12 vs. Vancouver | 41 shots
The Vees outshot their opponents 81-51 but were outscored 7-1.
Over the last 3 games, Penticton has outshot its opponents 110-71, but has been outscored 9-1.
π 2008 G Kaenan Smith replaced 2006 G AJ Reyelts to start the 3rd period. Smith remains 5th in the WHL in goals against average (2.03).
π Penticton won 38/70 faceoffs against Vancouver and has won 81/132 draws in its last 2 games.
Game 11 | 43/62 | 69.4%
Game 12 | 38/70 | 54.3%
Total | 81/132 | 61.4%
Katz | 3/3 | 100.0%

π And finally, since @TheWHL officials routinely make errors that lead to scoring opportunities, let's start crediting them with goals and assists.
1οΈβ£
With Vancouver up 2β0 in the 2nd period, referee Mike Langin disallowed an obvious Vancouver goal. Not only did he fail to see the puck enter the net right in front of where he was standing, he blew his whistle after the puck had already entered the net.
Goal: Mike Langin (1st)
2οΈβ£
With Vancouver up 1β0 in the 1st period, 2008 C Cam Norrie was tossed from the faceoff by linesman Dustin Minty for no apparent reason. Vancouver immediately scored on the next faceoff.
Assist: Dustin Minty (1st)
Minty later blew an offsides call but no points awarded.

Notes from the @PentictonVees 2-0 loss to Wenatchee on 10/16/26:
With the Vees in the midst of a 5-game losing streak which includes 2 straight shoutouts, today we are an investigator seeking clues from a crime scene.
Let's pull out the microscope, examine the blood splatter and see what we can learn about the DNA of this squad.
First the very obvious clues:
π The Vees last won a game 2 weeks ago on Saturday, Oct. 3.
π The Vees last scored a power play goal 8 days ago on Friday, Oct. 9.
π The Vees last scored a goal 1 week ago on Saturday, Oct. 10
Now, let's zoom in the microscope a bit:
π The Vees have played 150 minutes and 27 seconds without scoring a goal.
π The Vees have taken 77 straight shots without scoring a goal.
π The Vees have had 16 straight power plays without scoring a goal.
Now that the stats from the anemic offensive and the impotent PP are out of the way, let's focus on the positives signs, of which there are several:
π 2008 G Kaenan Smith (shown below) stopped 19 of 20 shots for the Vees. His 2.03 goals against average is 5th in the WHL.
π The Vees allowed only 21 shots, including 4 in the 3rd period.
On the season, Penticton has allowed 24.64 shots per game, whch is the 2nd-lowest in the WHL.
Over the last three games:
Tri-City | 24 shots allowed
Portland | 20 shots allowed
Wenatchee | 21 shots allowed
π Penticton won a season-high 43 of 62 faceoffs (for a season-best 69.4%).
Norrie | 11/13 | 84.6%
Bergeson | 17/23 | 73.9%
Pederson | 9/15 | 60.0%
Deakos | 3/8 | 37.5%
π The Vees recorded a season-high 40 shots and outshot Wenatchee 19-4 in the 3rd period.
Pentictonβs forwards had 29 shots on goal after recording only 15 in each of the previous 2 games. Ten of the 12 forwards registered at least one shot.

π 2009 D Whit Rewertz, 2008 D Eli Johnson, 2008 C Noah Milford and 2008 LW Kash Alger-East were not in the lineup.
π In a nutshell, the Vees offence has wasted some very stingy play on both defence and in goal.
On the opening goal, 2006 LW Tristan Petersen lost a battle in the corner, which is uncharacteristic of both him and this squad.
There was one long, sustained possesion in the Wenatchee defensive zone, but there needs to be more cycling and more forechecking, which are hallmarks of Vees hockey.
Whether it is a big hit or maybe even a fight, the Vees need an early spark tonight against Vancouver.
