Simon Weston became Britain's most well-known veteran when he returned from the Falklands Conflict with life-changing injuries.
Find out more about the day his ship - the Sir Galahad - was hit by an Argentine bomb, how his remarkable resilience captured the nation's heart, and why he found himself at rock-bottom after struggling to come to terms with what he saw when he first looked in the mirror.

Happy 102nd Birthday to the incredible Dorothea Barron!🇬🇧❤️
A true WW2inspiration, Dorothea joined the WRNS at just 18, even putting cardboard in her shoes to meet the height requirement!
“I put my hair up and stood up very tall, as tall as I could.”
She went on to teach semaphore signalling to troops ahead of D-Day.
What a remarkable lady! Thank you for your service, Dorothea.

A lasting tribute to those who have served. 🌺🕯️🇬🇧
A beautiful new stained-glass window has been unveiled at St Michael’s Church in Lyneham, Wiltshire, honouring more than 80 years of service by the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).
Featuring St Eligius, the Corps’ patron saint, the window celebrates the strong connection between the Armed Forces and the local community.
Five years in the making, it stands as a permanent reminder of the dedication of those who have served, the families who stand alongside them, and the communities that continue to support them.
A meaningful tribute that will be appreciated for generations to come. 🌺🇬🇧

📸 From the archives: October 1942.
A special moment, thousands of miles from home. ❤️
Trooper Cyril Stacey of the Royal Tank Regiment shaves beside his Valentine tank in the Western Desert, looking at a newly arrived picture of his wife and newborn baby.
A touching reminder of the families waiting back home during the Second World War.
“Without their dogs, a lot of them wouldn’t be here.”
Fiona MacDonald began Bravehound – a charity the Veterans’ Foundation is proud to support – with a simple mission: to provide trained dogs to veterans suffering with PTSD to help with their rehabilitation.
The results have been transformational.
Find out why Bravehound has been such a success story – and why funding from the Veterans’ Foundation has been crucial to saving the lives of veterans in need.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of D-Day veteran Roland James ‘Jim’ Churm, aged 102. 🌺 🕯️🇬🇧
Jim served as a Royal Navy medic during the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944, caring for sick and injured personnel aboard a landing craft supporting the assault on Sword Beach.
His dedication to others continued long after the war, through a career in nursing and physiotherapy, and his involvement in remembrance activities.
In 2025, Jim was awarded France’s Légion d’Honneur in recognition of his wartime service. For Jim, it was also an opportunity to remember those who never returned home.
Our thoughts are with Jim’s family, friends and all who knew him.
Thank you for your service, Jim. Rest in peace. 🌺🕊️

Veterans’ Outdoors: Support for the long haul 🌿
For Jeremy Hibbard and the team at Veterans Outdoors, supporting veterans means being there for as long as it takes. Through outdoor activities, mentoring and welfare support, they help veterans and military families build connections, improve wellbeing and find ongoing support.
As Jeremy puts it:
“Because our work takes time, our beneficiaries and the many organisations who refer veterans to us need to know we are in it for the long haul.”
We’re proud to fund their work, helping the team plan ahead and continue making a real difference. ❤️

Remembering D-Day veteran Colin Cole, who has passed away aged 107. 🌺🕯️
From serving in the RAF during the Second World War to dedicating his career to teaching and educational psychology, Colin lived a remarkable life of service to others.
As one of the last surviving members of the RAF Air Sea Rescue teams involved in D-Day, Colin helped rescue downed pilots from the English Channel.
His commitment to his community continued long after the war. Remarkably, he was still volunteering at Oswestry Police Station at the age of 106.
Our thoughts are with Colin’s family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
Thank you for your service, Colin. Rest in peace. ❤️🇬🇧
