Tonight I’m in Newcastle for the Community Rail Awards #CRA25! The people who bridge local support groups, volunteers, schools, charities - and the railway. They decorate, restore, educate, promote, rebuild, plant, tidy, support… they *always* give. Tonight is their night - and it’s a genuine privilege to meet so many people who put the heart back into the railway, and make it so much more than just a transport system. Community Rail groups change lives: in the most incredible, moving ways. I just cried when @fobs_seaford won an award (Bishopstone!) because I know how they’ve helped combat loneliness of so many by turning a disused building into a community asset. And tonight, there are a thousand stories like this from all over the railway, from thousands of wonderful, kind, skilful passionate people. Presenters are @NEMartijn and Vicki Pipe @VickiExplores with @richardsalkeld … and apparently I’m due up on stage too shortly 🙊uhoh!

We're named after Sir Walter Scott's Waverley novels, Vicki :)

Can’t seem to find a consensus as to why Edinburgh Station is called ‘Waverley’. Is it named after a Walter Scott prose, is it the location council area, or is it named after Waverley Bridge? Any ideas internet peeps? #hivemind

This will be a fantastic evening of music and story telling!
Join us on Saturday 15 June to discover the story and compositions of Herbert Murrill, conductor of the Bletchley Park Musical Society and BBC’s Head of Music. After recently uncovering an archived collection of Murrill’s songs, unperformed since the 1940s and never recorded, baritone and conductor Crispin Lewis is initiating a project to publish, record commercially, and perform all of them. For the first time in 70 years, these songs will be gathered together and performed, in a recital and talk exploring Murrill’s place in Bletchley’s vibrant musical life. My former workplace makes a historic discovery! I have such fond memories of working here. (It seems somehow apt / spooky that I would then go on to study Shakespearean theatre @The_Globe) west-norfolk.gov.uk/news/art…

Huge thanks to everyone who replied! Mystery solved - legends.
Train peeps! My friend is restoring what we thinking is a railway lamp / lantern. Can anyone tell us more about what the inscription on the side means? 👇 Thanking you!
