Like so many people across the country, we waited each day hoping for good news in the search for 11-year-old Parker Wells. We are deeply saddened to learn that the search has ended in tragedy.
The North Vancouver RCMP extends our heartfelt condolences to Parker’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this unimaginable loss.
We also want to recognize the unwavering dedication of the @CalgaryPolice, Calgary Fire Department, search and rescue teams, and the hundreds of community volunteers who gave their time and energy throughout the nearly two-week search. Their compassion, determination, and tireless efforts are a powerful reminder of the strength of Canadians when a community comes together in a time of need.
Today, our thoughts are with Calgary as they mourn this heartbreaking loss. – at North Vancouver, British Columbia

Rest in peace.
Yesterday, a young Durham Regional Police recruit named Tyrone Magbitang tragically lost his life while returning from theOntario Police College.
I immediately remembered this message he sent me nearly five years ago. I hesitated to share it because this isn't about me, it's about a young man who had a passion for serving others and a bright future ahead of him.
His words are a reminder that we should never underestimate the impact of a few encouraging words. He'll never know how much his words mean to me looking back.
Rest easy, brother. Thank you for choosing a life of service. My deepest condolences go out to his family, your friends, classmates, and everyone at Durham Regional Police Service.
We will remember you.

A dangerous sex offender, with multiple convictions for horrific crimes involving women and children, is being released into our community. According to the public warning notification issued by the Surrey Police Service, Marinus Willemse “is believed to pose a significant risk to women and children.”
When you consider the criminal history of Marinus Willemse, it seems almost inevitable that he will reoffend. If so, that means there will be a victim.
While I agree with the principle of rehabilitation, forgiveness and second chances, I draw the line at repeat offenders that target the vulnerable.
We need to do better.
As I have in the past, I will write the Federal Minster of Justice expressing my firm believe that we cannot, as a society, allow such individuals amongst children, mothers and families.
If this means that Marinus Willemse must remain in jail indefinitely – then so be it.
