🚜 British farming is facing a crisis under Labour with record farm closures and plummeting investment.
@andyburnham must do the right thing and AXE the Family Farm Tax👇

Our farmers can’t afford another day of this Labour government.
They are taxing our farmers, taxing our fertiliser, and turned the Sustainable Farming Incentive into a complete debacle.
The Prime Minister must change course and axe the Family Farm and Family Business Tax at the Budget.

Labour’s answer to everything? More tax.
Ours? Back the businesses keeping our high streets alive and make it cheaper to give young people their first jobs.
Nearly two years ago, Labour broke its election promise to rural communities and made family farms and family businesses its first target, introducing the family farm and family business taxes to fund benefits for others.
It was the start of a pernicious attack on the rural way of life. Tens of thousands left the countryside to protest outside No10 against these death taxes, which threatened farms and businesses that had survived for generations.
The Conservatives stood with farmers. We protested, proved Labour’s costings wrong, shared the heartbreaking stories of affected families, and forced vote after vote in the Commons.
Our collective effort produced one of the most humiliating u-turns of Keir Starmer’s leadership. Labour slipped it out the day before Christmas Eve, hoping nobody would notice, and raised the threshold. Farmers and the Conservatives noticed, and made clear it did not go nearly far enough.
Since then, more than nine in ten farmers have halted investment, and 87% say their profits have been significantly hit. The government is already presiding over record farm closures.
Last week, the Conservatives forced the eighth vote on these taxes. Labour MPs again failed the countryside by voting to keep them.
But with the Budget less than ten days away, there is still time for the new Prime Minister to deliver on his promise to “build back trust” with farming communities.
Number 10 insiders suggest the tax could be abolished or watered down. If true, it would be a huge admission that the government got this policy wrong.
Farming families will neither forgive nor forget the stress they have endured. But scrapping these taxes would give them certainty for the future of their farms, and lift one burden as they recover from the worst harvest on record while facing higher fuel prices, the jobs tax and the fertiliser tax.
This matters to us all. In an increasingly dangerous world, we need farmers to grow the food we eat, not sell up.
Enough is enough. Andy Burnham must axe these vindictive taxes in their entirety.
If he doesn’t, the @Conservatives will scrap them when we return to government.

Labour’s handling of the Sustainable Farming Incentive has been a complete and utter mess - and now they can’t even answer basic questions.
They closed the scheme without warning in March 25 and then proceeded to slash the budget.
The result - demand naturally built up - so much so, that when the scheme finally reopened, it couldn’t support the high number of applications.
Through their choices, Labour made the Sustainable Farming Incentive a first come, first served scheme, based on who could hit ‘apply’ the quickest.
This has been a disaster for our farmers and for nature.
This debacle cannot continue.
This is a very disturbing watch. It is disgraceful that Reform put these people forward for elected office and does beg the question of how many others they have allowed to be elected holding views like this. The comments of their own staff suggest this is a far from isolated matter.
Lincolnshire’s Reform representatives must now condemn these views and reassure residents that those who have been elected in Lincolnshire do not share the racist, sexist views of their colleagues.
Warning: Distressing and graphic language
A Reform councillor from South London has been recorded calling for King Charles to be decapitated because he “is a Muslim”, while another senior Reform councillor from Solihull said of Asian people: “drag out of their homes, stick them on planes and **** them off to Pakistan.”
It’s part of an undercover investigation by ITV Exposure into Nigel Farage’s Reform UK.
Councillor Dean Miller told us he was heavily medicated at the time due to a chronic pain condition and has since resigned from Reform.
Councillor Raymond Dunning did not respond to our request for comment.
In a statement shared with ITV News, Reform UK said "Where members, activists and councillors have clearly behaved inappropriately, investigations have commenced. In some cases, there have been suspensions and due process must be followed."
"Reform UK has improved and prioritised its vetting procedures, but from time to time, a handful of individuals who do not share our values will initially make it through vetting. This is the same for all organisations."

Labour’s war on motorists continues...
Their fuel duty hike is set to cost the average two-car household £156!
Madness.
Burnham’s promise to help people with the cost of living is nothing but TikTok vibes.
Andy Burnham must get a grip of the real challenges facing our rural communities.
But stacking a new fertiliser tax on top of the SFI shambles, giving away our food laws to the EU and hammering hard-working families with vindictive death taxes isn’t a strategy, it’s pushing British farming to the brink.
Tonight, Labour MPs voted AGAIN for the Family Farm Tax and Family Business Tax.
Eight chances to do the right thing. Eight times they chose to hammer farmers and family businesses.
Labour must listen. At the Budget, axe these vindictive taxes.
With record farm closures and nature in decline, the status quo for our countryside and coast is not working.
We want Whitehall to work for the countryside and coast, not against it.
Only the @Conservatives will choose to fix this by restructuring Defra, bringing powers back under Ministerial responsibility and trusting those who live and work on the land to deliver the best outcomes for nature.
Delighted to be in Oxfordshire this evening speaking to farmers and local residents about farming and our rural way of life.
@Merry_Meredith was grilling me - and is this week celebrating 10 years as editor of the brilliant publication @FarmersWeekly, congratulations! 💥

Burnham is all over the place.
He hasn’t got to grips with the detail and is now rushing into closer ties with the EU without understanding the implications for our farming sector.
He is miss quoting the NFU from the dispatch box and is now asking me to send him CropLife UK’s economic impact assessment which was sent to DEFRA 10 months ago.
I am deeply worried for our farmers under his watch.
🥀 Nearly 3 weeks since Labour’s environmental policies collapsed with the shambolic SFI scheme.
Defra Ministers should come to Parliament today, (the first opportunity possible), to explain why and how the department’s flagship scheme has gone so badly wrong.
