Thinking about disengaging from Twitter after today. It will probably be good for me, and I don't know if I can stomach the new TOS, or the owner's new imperative. It's been a fun run. We'll see. I probably won't delete the account so I can keep finding people elsewhere.

Deleted all my personal media from Twitter (I left screenshots from released games, for others to enjoy and because they are but a drop in the bucket of Grok for copyrighted material, sadly). Denouement.

Truly, I'm not sure how much more embarrassing and less serious we can get as a country, which makes all the horrors we inflict on the rest of the world that much more horrifying. The US is recursive clowns with nuclear codes, literally and metaphorically.
Musk and Ramaswamy will lead the DOGE -- Department of Government Efficiency. It will provide "advice and guidance from outside of Government"

I'm finding it nearly impossible to run a survey of general game players (e.g. not recruited through known player pools of specific games) because 40-60% of responses are now genAI bullshit. There's probably going to be a new market of Real Human Response Validators soon.

Used e.g. incorrectly instead of i.e.

It sucks that the only solutions are to 1) review, cut, and re-run over and over until you get the sample you need of real people, playing a raw numbers game of cutting the bot-half each time, or 2) build in multiple catch questions that make the process onerous for real people.

One takeaway from the last 4 years is we should do good things because they’re good, not because we can expect reliable electoral payoff from them.
I’m seeing a lot of lefties talking about a failure to appeal to the working class but I think we should be more specific about some of the tensions embedded in this conversation, and I’m going to start with one of Biden’s signature policies - the expanded child tax credit /1

The "Probably not" in this statement is incredible. Two words cut to the heart of the problem.
It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.

I genuinely thought that the United States had demographically moved beyond the possibility of a republican winning the popular vote and their only hope came from anti-democratic institutions like the electoral college. But no! Democrats' propensity for failure proved me wrong.

Heads should roll at the DNC. Every advisor in this campaign, anyone setting party direction. Abject embarrassment and gross failure of their purported constituents. It's incompetence or obstruction, and both warrant excision. Squandered the brief spark of hope they were granted.

Hopefully there's something better on the other end, whatever effort it takes to get there.

Despicable.
Days after shutting its studio filled with veteran game developers, Netflix has announced its push into gen-AI games: gamesradar.com/games/god-of-…

Getting this Frog Device custom made for $2000 to use exclusively for Teams calls.
Love that I asked where the croaky bass stabs in “Thriller” came from and it’s an instrument that has a literal Frog Button

This is sort of the maximalist version of this tune, I think the next iteration might tone the top voice back a good deal.

We just can't stop inventing worse ways for genAI to demonstrate how terrible it is at all the things the idiots pushing it want it to do.

There's nothing like your first, which is why I'm a primacy bias guy.
just learned about recency bias and its my favorite thing ever

Want to take a moment for a brief under-the-hood look at attitudinal constructs of video game experiences and how to measure them. That is, measuring and interpreting "Fun" and the things that make it up like "Challenge", "Pacing", "Frustration", "Immersion", etc.
silent hill 2 remake is more “immersive” and i get why that’s exciting for “modern” audiences. but it’s different OG silent hill 2 pulled back the camera because we are not meant to “immerse” ourselves as James. that emotional distance is important for the original story

But none of these construct measures, immersion included, should be thought of as independent scales to maximize in the same way for every game. That's how you get homogeneity of experiences and bring everything down.

Final note to say that this is all informed by a particular school of thought that I learned in, and while it's a pretty common one, it's not the only one, so there are likely other valid perspectives out there. But the goal is always to align vision to player experience.
