When Solar Orbiter is at its closest approach to the Sun, at the minimum perihelion of 0.28 AU (i.e., astronomical unit), the annular zone is within 1.7 and 3.1 R☉ (solar radii) from disk center. In addition, updates to EUI, SPICE and SoloHI data have been made.

By simulating a solar eclipse, Metis observes the faint coronal light, at least one millionth dimmer than the disk light, in an annular zone 1.6°–2.9° wide, around the disk center.

In the ultraviolet band, the coronagraph obtains monochromatic images in the Lyman-α line, at 121.6 nm, emitted by the few neutral-hydrogen atoms surviving in the hot corona.

VSO has added data from the Metis instrument to the Solar Orbiter Data Provider. Metis is the coronagraph of the scientific payload of Solar Orbiter. The main Metis objective is the investigation of the global corona in polarized visible light and in ultraviolet light.

The WISPR data for Encounters 18 & 19 are now available via the VSO. A total of 53,766 files have been added!

Patching is occurring now at SDAC which will affect VSO services. Should be finished by 2pm EDT.

There was a power outage at NSO this afternoon which took down some of the VSO equipment. Although back up now, there may be some residual issues with the VSO@NSO and NSO Dataproviders such as NISP.

Network issues at CU Boulder will likely affect access to VSO at NSO and the datasets NSO serves. (2024/06/28)

The SDAC will be patching servers sdo6, sdo7 (production) and sdo8 tomorrow, May 16th at 2 pm eastern time. VSO services will be unavailable at SDAC for approximately 1 hour.

NSO is currently on generator power after precautionary power cuts due to high winds. All systems are currently available.

SDAC will be down from 11am-12pm Eastern tomorrow, Jan 10 for server maintenance. This will affect all data providers hosted by SDAC.

SDAC will be taking the production SDO data server down for 30-60 minutes starting at noon Eastern time on Monday, January 8th. SDO data should still be available from NSO.

The PSP/WISPR data for Encounter 16 is now available via the VSO.

After replacing the old primary VSO machine at SDAC, we are seeing errors in Apache, mod_perl, the DB, and the REST services. We are working to fix these as soon as possible. In the meantime, downloads from missions such as STEREO are not working.
