Thank you @WKRN for bringing on our Director Todd Horton to share information about Williamson County’s recovery efforts after Winter Storm Fern. Our agency’s work with local municipal partners has qualified the county for federal and state reimbursement for a majority of our cleanup costs.

🔥 First time turning on the heat? A brief burning smell is often just dust burning off the furnace. If it persists or gets stronger, turn off the heat and call an HVAC pro. If you see or smell smoke or fire or you suspect gas fumes, call 911. Stay warm & safe! ❄️

🔐 Your next click could be the one you regret. Cybercriminals don’t always use sophisticated hacks to get your information. Sometimes, all they need is a moment of distraction, a little curiosity or a message that looks legitimate.
During Cybersecurity Awareness Month, here’s one thing worth remembering: Convenience is not the same as security.
🛑 That unexpected package notification? Verify it before clicking.
📲 That text from your “bank” asking you to confirm your account? Contact your bank directly instead.
🔑 That password you use for five different accounts? If one account is compromised, the others could be at risk, too.
🔄 And those software updates you keep putting off? They often fix security weaknesses that criminals know how to exploit.
Take a second. Think before you click. Make it harder for criminals to get in.
Cybersecurity starts with everyday decisions, and a few extra seconds can make a real difference. 🛡️
A good reminder from Williamson Fire-Rescue about burn permits, which are required for outdoor burning starting 10/15. 🔥
REMINDER🔥 Burn permits are required Oct. 15-May 15 in unincorporated Williamson County. Most cities prohibit open yard debris burning. Check local rules and get a permit at BurnSafeTN.org BEFORE you burn! 🚒
📻 When the networks go down, HAM radio operators step up! We recently supported WCARES (Williamson County Amateur Radio Emergency Service) during its Simulated Emergency Test, preparing for a scenario in which cyberattacks disrupted internet, cell service and 911.
Twenty volunteers deployed to five recreation centers and the Emergency Operations Center, handling 58 simulated emergencies using amateur radio communications.
Exercises like this help strengthen our community’s ability to communicate and coordinate when traditional systems are unavailable.
Thanks to WCARES and our @wc_parksandrec partners for helping keep Williamson County ready!
Williamson County is under a Dense Fog Advisory until 10 AM. Fog may reduce visibility to ¼ mile or less, making driving hazardous.
If you're on the road, slow down, use your low-beam headlights, increase following distance and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Give yourself plenty of room to see and be seen.
Williamson County EMA was honored to support the search in Lewis County for 85-year-old Mary Dickerson, who was found alive today after being reported missing Thursday. Our team provided mapping, search planning and communications support to assist the multi-agency search effort. 🚨 You were taught to answer the phone. You were taught to be polite. Scammers are counting on that. A Williamson County resident recently lost $71K after scammers repeatedly called him for 11 days, posing as FBI agents and using scare tactics to pressure him.
Scammers also pose as utility companies, sheriff’s offices, banks and other organizations you may feel obligated to trust.
Here’s what we want you, and your parents, grandparents and loved ones, to know:
☎️ You do not have to stay on the phone because someone sounds official. Hang up.
🔎 Look up the official number yourself and call back.
🚩 Pressure and urgency are red flags.
🔒 Never share passwords, verification codes or financial information.
💰 Never move money because a caller tells you to “protect” it.
🤫 If they say, “Don’t tell anyone,” tell someone immediately. Scammers rely on trust, fear and politeness. Don’t give them the advantage.👉
Hang up. Verify independently. Talk to someone you trust. Make “Hang up and verify” part of your family’s preparedness plan.
