Follow-up care for Ebola survivors is an essential part of any Ebola outbreak response. After discharge from treatment centres, survivors need continued physical and psychosocial support, provided through dedicated survivor follow-up clinics. With support from @OCHAFunds and @FCDOGovUK, @WHO has helped establish the first two clinics, in Bunia and Beni. 🎥 Follow the journey of an Ebola survivor at the Bunia clinic.

Clear water is not always safe water. Lead and other contaminants can enter drinking-water through pipes, solder and fittings. Finding the source is how we ultimately stop the exposure. Where lead-containing materials are in use, water suppliers, consumers and other stakeholders can take action to mitigate exposure to lead in drinking-water. #ILPPW2026 More info: bit.ly/4yNEPVD

From 19 to 24 October, South Sudan is conducting a full-scale simulation exercise to test and strengthen its preparedness and response capacities for a potential Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak. Supported by @WHO and partners, the exercise is testing coordination across national and subnational emergency response teams, validating existing preparedness plans and identifying gaps that need to be addressed. Strengthening preparedness today is key to detecting threats early, responding rapidly and protecting communities.

Nigeria has confirmed an imported case of Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus in the Federal Capital Territory, making it the fifth country to detect the virus since the outbreak was declared in the DRC on 15 May 2026. The patient, a woman with a recent travel history to Uganda, is in isolation and receiving medical care. Diseases do not recognize borders, but preparedness and collaboration can stop them in their tracks. Today, @WHO joined the @MinofHealthUG, diplomatic missions and development partners to discuss #Uganda's readiness in the face of the ongoing #Ebola outbreak in the #DRC and recent cases reported in #Kenya. The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to sustained preparedness, strong surveillance, cross-border collaboration and community engagement.
