"We think of institutional mental health care as an outdated model. But it is far more than that. It is a human rights issue hiding in plain sight," write Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus time.com/article/2026/10/12/…

An estimated 2.2 billion people globally live with vision impairment. Nearly 30% of them are in the WHO South-East Asia Region. And nearly half of the global burden could have been addressed with surgery or a pair of glasses. On #WorldSightDay, let’s accelerate action to make affordable and people-centred eye care accessible to everyone, everywhere. 🔗: who.int/southeastasia/news/d… #EyeHealth #HealthForAll

📍 #RC79 - Dili, Timor-Leste "For Timor-Leste, this forum presents an invaluable opportunity to engage with innovative national strategies, explore bilateral institutional partnerships, and to advance avenues for technical exchange, mentorship and professional development. Our broader deliberations will address critical issues surrounding disease elimination, health system resilience, and the deployment of transformative medical technologies,” said Dr Élia A.A dos Reis Amaral, Minister of Health, Timor-Leste. She added that regional cooperation is most effective when solutions are adaptable to the diverse capacities and socioeconomic contexts of the respective nations. The minister further shared that hosting #RC79 represents far more than an official summit for Timor-Leste. “It is a vital forum for knowledge exchange, mutual learning, and the consolidation of enduring partnerships,” she shared as hosting such gatherings on home soil offers young health professionals and national institutions a first-hand view of multilateral cooperation in action. #WHOSEARO #HealthForAll #PublicHealth

Every child must receive life-saving #vaccines 💉 for a healthier future. 🚨 The latest WHO and UNICEF Estimates of National Immunization Coverage (WUENIC) 2025 is out! 👧🏾 Despite the WHO South-East Asia Region sustaining high routine immunization coverage in 2025, more than a million children did not receive their first routine vaccine and over half a million children remained partially vaccinated, increasing their risk to life-threatening diseases. @WHO calls on Member States to renew their efforts to reach every child, everywhere, with life-saving vaccines. 🔗: who.int/southeastasia/news/d… #VaccinesWork #ImmunizationForAll #HealthForAll #VaccinesSaveLives @MoHFW_INDIA @MoHmv @MoH_SriLanka @pr_moph @MdSTimorLeste @UNICEF @UNICEFAPRO @WHO

At this week's 2026 Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, @WHO leaders @DrTedros, WHO Director-General, and Dr @SamaanGina, WHO Regional Emergency Director for the Western Pacific, addressed a critical question: How do we reinvent cooperation in a fragmented world? Country examples shared at the Forum indicate that the answer may lie in an unlikely sector: #PublicHealth. In the Asia-Pacific region, Timor-Leste has long illustrated how health and peace are two sides of the same coin. A once fragile, post-conflict state with limited systems and resources, Timor-Leste today is #MalariaFree. Through political commitment, multilateral cooperation, and community trust, the country has met many of its health and political security goals.

#Hantavirus update: the number of cases reported to @WHO remains 13, including three deaths. No new deaths have been reported for more than a month. We are in close contact with the governments where isolated patients are receiving treatment or where passengers and crew members are being quarantined.
